They can set the toll AND speed limit at what they like apparently!
After taking consulations with the Police they have stuck to the 70mph ...... BUT, get this! NO cameras or Police will be allowed to enforce it - as its private land!!

Yes it was a serious question because how many long sections of road do you know which are privately owned?
I was just wondering legally how they can enforce a speed limit etc as it is not government road.

50 mph must be a temporary speed restriction, surely!
I for one (should I ever have the misfortune to be forced to use it) shall not be respecting such an erroniously low speed limit!

Looking at it more closely, what I think it’s trying to say is that all the toll areas have a 50mph limit.
A report by our local TV news said that all highway laws will apply and will be enforced be patrolling cars just like any other motorway.

Exactly.
A private road in name only.
All UK highway laws will apply and anyone doing 'bad' things will pay as per normal.
Can you really imagine the government allowing a private company to build a road that wasn't governed by UK highway law? This country may be lacking in some areas, but it's not 3rd world.
Hence my sarcasm in my original post.

The road has been designed so that you will only pass through ONE toll booth, so they won't be able to time your ticket (however, that doesn't mean that other means could be used to check your speed!).
mb
they'll just time you between tolls and issue you with a big bill a few days later..

There are 50mph signs, but only on the approach to the toll area.
I had a blast north up there today, it took me a while to find a way on it tho. I found an open entrance from the A5 in the end.
What a delighful bit of road- well worth my £2. Will be using it regularly from now on.
I tried to get on to go south this morning, but with the motorway access points not open yet I gave up pretty quickly.
Only saw two cars the whole length of it- one was an old volvo (looked like it was worth less than the charge to go on the road) and a Police Volvo, which I came up on a little bit quick
The photo below was taken at about 3pm today.
