Wink

Just saw a council truck drive past the window (good view from here), and....

The driver had a mug of tea in one hand and was also eating a bacon buttie whist driving along

Now OK, that can be put down without due care and attention... But it really is a perfect example of the farcical laws in the country

I think its still legal to drink the tea as long as its 'hands-free' (ie. a long straw)

There is an excemption for the band they use - but not CB.

You can't really compare

police,Fire service and Ambulance driver
who are all trained drivers to the likes of average people using their mobile phones.

Not all of the police are trained drivers. Most of them haven't done anymore training than the rest of the public

Yes they do.
The minimum standard is a Basic police driving test and exam.

Talking

Cars have cup holders built in and as such are designed to safely carry beverages. If you get a hands free cradle fitted then your car is then equipped to carry a mobile phone too and you area free to use it.

You cannot simply prevent people picking up any object in a car but if it is one they are likely to use a lot and you equip the car appropriately then not a significant problem IMHO.

Probably comfortable seats are more dangerous than anything as people get too relaxed and don't focus there concentration. Personally I would support a motion to get all cars fitted with uncomfortable seats.
