I've been a couple of times to Lanzarote for New Year and it's a good place to be cos it's warm - not 100's, but late 70's at least. I would say it's more families after a warm Xmas than louts everywhere.
We tried booking up for this year but can't get in anywhere in Lanzarote or Fuertaventura, so going to San Francisco instead
Have you rid of your car yet? Picked up my grey type r last weekend

Not new year - but went to puerto del carmen in lanzarote in september and it was pretty quiet then, hardly any groups of lads / lasses - it was all couples. It was, however, v windy!
Maspalomas is good in Gran Canaria in October, still v hot but quiet, although if you fancy a lively night go to playa del ingles which is reported to be the gay capital of euro-holidays! and I can beleive it!! Best beach in europe BTW.
Dunno about Tenerife - wasnt sober long enough to remember anything...

Playa Blanca on Lanzagrot at New Year. Great fun in the Irish Anvil as the staff were very happy to see the younger generation after 4 months of retired people after the summer season! Did special stuff for New Year and the best bit is the pubs aren't as packed as back here, you can easily get to the bar, have a great time and get pi$$ed dirt cheap! Highly recommend it! Definately prefer it to a UK New Year!!
Plus the weather is great... most of the time. You can get wet but it isn't that cold. Again compared to UK, marvelous!
You've got me thinking of going back myself this year...

I went to Porto Rico in Gran Canaria at Easter and it is really crap, and very over developed. On that island, I would go back to a small fishing village further up the coast called Puerto De Mogan, which was quality. Warm all year round and the twisties are very Very VERY TWISTY .

I had a Punto Rag top, and I had to put the roof up as it was so hot and my kids were getting sunburnt as we drove the perimeter of the island it was 40c and I wished I got a car with aircon. Kneedown hairpins every 200 yards for 50 miles , No wonder the canarians are good at rallying.

I have been to Tenerife on several occassions for Xmas & New Year. I won't be going again until the prices of the flights come down though. Last year we paid £350.00 each flight only.
Place itself is very busy so book early for Xmas day lunch, but shop around as prices vary from 20 to 50 Euros a head.
It still never fails to amaze me how many of the Egg & Chip brigade holiday in Tenerife Hopefully the new governor will continue to make sweeping changes for the better. Flattening Veronica's was a good start
Cheers

You're not looking hard enough. We got flights for 2 adults, £350 all in including taxes/insurance flying out on the 27th
BTW, they don't let the morrocans in, they just keep turning up

We've been to all the Islands bar one and usually around Christmas time. There nice and hot but not the most picturesque places to look at.
Prefered Gran Canaria to the others and thought Lanzarote was a right hole.....
Its nice to phone your mates up when your on the beach wearing shorts under mid to late 20's degrees and ask them what its like back in the UK

Tenerife is usually nice and warm and you can choose louts (Las Americas) or no louts (virtually anywhere else).
My advice? Hire a car (less than £100 for a week) and find the twisties leading up the mountain. Nothing handles like a Punto hire car Head for Parque des Aguilas then Arona, then follow the road up to Vilaflor and beyond, great fun, great scenery.
Around New Year, if you're lucky, it'll be snowing on the mountain and 25C+ on the beach.
Also, Canarians are mad on rallying, there's usually some kind of event on over there (mad locals in anything from SEAT 127's to Escort Cossie's/Evo's etc.)
I'll be there over New Year, so if you see a mad Brit in a Punto with smoking brakes, you know who it is
