they will not lose / have affect on their international race licences, but their co drivers will have to drive between stages on public roads.
I do not know how a welsh english can put points on european licences, I didnt think that was possible only fines could be endorsable, as that is all tht can happen to us in contineantal europe.
unless im wrong in which case i had better stop doing personal cannonball runs through europe

Points are just kept on file in Swansea against the person concerned, Name/DOB and place of Birth. Same thing happens in Germany where I'm currently pottering about on 6 points on a UK licence, the points however are only applicable in Germany and are NOT on my UK licence.
PS for all those dreaming of unrestricted A/Bahn driving , my 2 'incidents' were on the A/Bahn on a limited section, so you cannot just go mad everywhere.

The bans are 3 or 6 months in most cases. The ones I feel sorry for are the British guys who have lost their licenses
Quite how the Welsh force can give points to Carlos Sainz and Markko Martin is beyond me, unless they have British licenses?

Loix, 32, was fined £1,750 and given a six-month ban after being caught seven times in the same stretch on the same morning.
Someone must have gigled looking at the photos. The same person back and forth past the camera

Only the fines are applicable to foreign license holders, but some drivers may hold UK licenses, if contracted to UK based teams and spending a lot of time here.
As for the Police setting up the speed trap on the loop of road that takes drivers from the end of the Shakedown stage, back to its start... they knew exactly what they were doing

If this goes on, the Rally will end up being staged elsewhere and the Police will be directly responsible for the enormous loss of income to local business that will result.
Whoever sanctions these activities should resign as they are not fit to be a public servent (IMO)

Typical of the police in the UK these days - sure to get public opinion on their side with this sort of behaviour.
Hypothetically speaking if they do this for the next few years no competitors will be left to compete in the rally and Wales will lose one of the few sporting events it has that can give it any international recognition - serves them right if that happens as far as I'm concerned.
Regards,
tiggers.

Does anyone know if this happened last week or at the 2002 event? One report last night said it happened at the 2002 event and the hearings were delayed until after this years event so that those who would get banned could still compete...
I got the impression from the link that it happened this year

It was 2002 and the hearing was delayed as most were out of the country. I suspect that the furore of banning them and preventing them from competing is something that even the Welsh Police realised would not be good PR.
