Talking

Was in hysterics this morning listening to Radio 5. There is a new trend called Blue Jacking. Apparantly you can get hold of a bluetooth radio transmitter (or something) but the gist is people who have them go into a crowded bar etc and send a message by bluetooth. Of course everyone with a Bluetooth enabled phone within a 30 feet (could be meter) radius gets the message on their phone anonymously of course! The bluejackers get their kick from seeing all these people checking their phones with puzzled looks on their faces!

AFAIK all you need is your own bloo toof phone and you can search for other local devices and send messages if the recipients have that feature avaiable.

I wonder how long before shops send us Blue Tooth "adverts" to our phones on the high street, or drinks promos in pubs/clubs etc.

I'm not particularly 'up' on Bluetooth. Is it possible to identify a particular Bluetooth device if you've not configured a relationship between two devices (e.g. installing a printer)? I'm sure that retailers would love to send you personalised adverts as you walk past their shop.

"Hi Dave, you bought some jeans with us six months ago. Need anything else...?"

Hello

The technology to do that stuff has been around ages.

I used to do demo's where mobile service providers could send you a text message if you were within 20 meters of a certain shop.

Very cool, extremely annoying and several companies were keen to implement it.

Digi boxes will do this in the house at some point soon as well.

Adverts taliored to your buying habits, the data is already there!
