Red face

Ive just been to Costco and bought two watches for my Niece and Nephews birthdays.(so what, I hear you cry)

I have a "problem" with watches, any spare cash or windfalls go on them. I am proud to own Breitling, Omega, and Rolex watches along with some cheaper makes like Seiko, Tag, and Citizen.

Now to the point, the two watches purchased today are Casio G- shocks, one is a Baby-G, £29.36 (BG163/2DV SKU:59809), and the other is a 20th Anniversary G-Shock £35.24 (G301F/2V SKU:56632). Whilst setting the time and the dates, I was reading the rather thick instruction manuals and I was amazed at the amount of functions the watches had. And when I read the specs chart for the watches I found that they were more accurated than any of my expensive Automatic watches.

One is waterproof to 100m, and the other to 200m, guaranteed!

They can store upto 25 names and telephone numbers, and both have a multitude of light, backpanel, and graphic setting variations.

If I went through all the functions I liked, I would be here all night.

The point of the post is this.....most "expensive" doesnt always mean the best at doing what they are supposed to do.

I think Ill be going back tomorrow to get myself a couple..

PS. These watches were nearly double the price in local jewelers , so get down to Costco and snap them up.

Later Yoza.

For some truely nasty watches (but not cheap), take a look at the Chase-Durer site. Yuck !

I bought one of these in the end after searching for six months for a watch to replace my trusty old Seiko that gave up the ghost. Couldn't find anything that did everything the Seiko could do so bought one that just tells the time (doesn't even have a tool for removing stones from a horses hoof).

Cheers

Ian

Hi,
I'm thinking of selling mine and going for a holiday and some SERIOUS mods to the car.

I've only got one wrist after all (or so the missus keeps saying!)

ScoobySoon,

If you cant see and feel the quality in a Breitling B1, then I cant not help you. You are far too hard to please.

Got an E-mail from Mr Chase Durer today, he will happily ship to the UK, Im going to be in so much trouble.

FlatEric,

Did you buy the watch in the picture, from a reputable jewellers. I dont want to sound like the doubtful know all here, but that watch is IMHO not a Breitling.

I look forward to the public ridicule, when you produce the information which shows that I dont know a Breitling from a Seiko .

* Very tempted to edit this post, but Ill take it on the chin, lesson learnt....

They look OK with a long sleaved shirt on!

But yes, I agree they are not the flashyest looking watches, but for price and functionality they are brilliant.

Just said to my son last night;

As a kid, the Lambo Countach was THE car. 0-60 in about 4.8 - 4.9 seconds, too wide to thrash around the roads, sod all rear visibility for use in towns or parking, clutch pedal that needed Geoff Capes to operate it, 1970s Italian (un)reliability, and repair bills to match. Currently about 30k, I believe.

Leaving aside the scoobs on here, I'm lusting after an M3 Coupé, 0-60 timed at 4.3, BMW reliability, highly drivable, highly useable, lorra lorra laffs, and I can get one for 17k.

And my Rolex gains 10 seconds a day.

Choices, choices...

LOL @ Gus.

And Brendan, your Rolex may be running a tad to fast, because you are over winding it, If you know what I mean.

You will go blind if you carry on!

I have this G-Shock for my work.
Really good watch. It is a titanium one (quite rare so I am told) Bomb proof and comfortable, the rrp for this makes it an expensive G-shock but got it at a good price so I am happy.

automatic watches will never be as accurate as quartz ones. they are only for purists and snob value IMO. Not saying i wouldn't own one if i had loads of spare money floating about, but i would buy a good quartz watch first.

i think your right yoza, a couple of my mates have tags and they brag about how much they were, even though they both got them in insurance claims but i can't see whats to them, to make them over a thousand pounds, theres no diamonds on them, or gold or anything precious, its just good marketing, to make people feel good about being ripped off.

The point of automatic watches is that you have a peice of engineering on your wrist, something that has been assembled by a skilled person, and not just a battery and cicuit board.

I know what you mean. I'm a sucker for nice watches.

I had a casio databank watch thingy many years ago, (before my mobile phone). It was great, I had for 10 years before it broke, battries laster about 3-4 years.

Since, I've had an ellese chronograph, which hates any form of vibration (karting, hammer drills etc.) and the hands get out of sync. The water seal broke (250m) so it got condensation inside, and has since died

Even worse is my Omega Seamaster (older- black face semi-digital model), Lovely watch. But it eats batteries in about 10-12months, needs re-sealing when they are replaced. The crown wheel falls off. And for some unknown reason the analogue section stopped working! Laughable thing was - the repairer said it needed a clean! What a load of BS, a swiss movement jobbie yes I could belive, but not a semi digital watch that runs off batteries and is rated to 300metres

Can't beat the Japanease stuff IMO
