I guess cheap watches are just like Subaru's?

They may be good, better than a more expensive one, but they just don't have any class and in the future will no longer be desired.

The Skyhawk has a BlueAngels motif on the bottom of the face, I think they are the equivellent to our RedArrows. If its branded on the watch does this mean they actually wear them.

4 year power reserve, with solar charging top up, cant be bad.

(excuse my stupidity, but how can it charge up indoors, as described?)

Yoza; I cant believe that you regard a fine watch like a (Tag) Heuer in the same light as a Citizen and Seiko. As for cheap; Ive got a 4000 Bi-Colour auto, no-longer available, but the replacement value is £2,000... Seikos top out at about £250 IIRC...

Yoza,

Yes, Chase-Durer do ship to the UK. They do not have an agent in the UK apart for one specific watch that some aviation equipment place down south sells. Aparantly, just order online and everything will be fine.

Well, that is what I was told when I enquired about a watch for my dad (who also has that kind of taste in watches).

Cheers

Cheers Ian,
You can take credit for causing havoc in our house tonight.

"Another fcukin watch, what for? I need a dishwasher, and tyres on my car. The last thing you need is another watch!"

I like watches too. This is my fave - an orginal 1970's LED watch. I have two - one of them is mint. This one has a slight scratch to the name though.

Both of them work perfectly after all these years

Was not aware of that Jaf; still regard proper Tag Heuers to be superior to both other makes listed though; excluding the cheap entry-level sh1te that they used to make.

Yoza; know what you mean, that sounds like a Formula One, they stopped making them because they were sh1te... Id like a Breitling myself btw or a Patek Phillipe perhaps.

I've worn a Breitling for about six years, althought its one of the quartz chronograph Colts rather than the automatic Chronomats. Far and away the most accurate watch I've owned, including Seiko, Accurist and Omega.

Choosing a watch is a very personal discission, much like your car...they all do exactly the same thing but in a slightly different way. I chose the Breitling firstly on looks and reputation and also, as far as I was concerned it was a bit exclusive... a number of people I knew owned Tags, so I wanted something different - although in appearance it looked very similar to one of the Tag chronos.

At the end of the day a £1.99 petrol station special does fundamentally the same as a £**,*** Patek, Rolex or Breitling, but if that was the only discission in buying a watch, Watches of Switzerland would be out of business and I would drive a sub £10,000 supermini.

I have Number 49/60 of the limited edition Breitling "Lancaster" series. When I bought it,for family reasons, the super slick jeweller said,

"You will always get a good price for that sort of watch come re-sale time".

Fact or fiction? And by good does he mean "profit" or "negligible depreciation"?

Breitling for me, was going to buy a Rolex but though better of it when ex wifes Rolex kept crap time! So instead of Sea dweller with 12 month waiting list bought the Breitling Superocean. Great watch except in the last 22months I have had it replaced by breitling then the replacement has been with them for 3months as it keeps running fast ! Now the F#####G thing has started losing all the paint on the dial so it will probably end up back with them again!!! Did I really say great watch!
Last seiko cost £200 and gave me no hassle a lot to be said for Japanese crap. Also have a very nice 1963 Garrard, that I have just had Garrard overhaul and service (cost more than the bloody scoob to have serviced!)
Must be something about scoobs and watches.

Unhappy

Scoobie-newbie (Col),
I hope you didnt pay too much for the Breitling, and Omega, in the first two pictures, as they are Japanese replicas worth circa £60-80. The other one I cant make out as the picture is too dark. This reply wasnt written to be-little you, but I thought you should know.

Buzzer,
Nice choice,(SuperQuartz TM) 10 times more accurate than a standard Quartz, so the man in the shop said. The AeroSpace isnt 'busy' enough for my liking, it doesnt have a sweep hand, this makes it look odd to me.

Go the full hog and buy a B1.

Like you say, the prices are very similar whichever jewellers you visit. You get the odd one turning up in costco at a good reduction, but they tend to be popular models ie Wings, SuperOceans, and Colts.

The best place Ive found has been the Canaries, but Im sure there are other countries who discount.

Nice one Yoza...you win a watch.

Just as well I only paid £20 for them !!!
...they are actually ALL chinese replicas (from Hong Kong).

Just goes to show though that if it's the time you are after, 9/10 people can't really tell the difference between a fake and a real one.
(not scientifically proven but what the hell!)

Personally I love watches and will have an Omega (real one) for me chrimbo off of Santa hopefully, until then, I will have to stick to the £20 specials.
I have had many a debate about how you can tell...what gave the game away? (the movements look first class by the way).

PS I would still love a nice holiday and some serious car modifications if anyone is willing to enter into the Christmas spirit (51 days to go)...

You did OK at £20.

The Breitling is all wrong, it doesnt really represent any model, but its close"ish" to a Colt. The Clasp on the strap is way off the mark too.

As for the SeaMaster Professional, thats too thick, and again the clasp is all wrong.

If your ever unsure on the originality of a watch here are a couple of pointers.

If its less than a quarter of the original price, then its either stolen or blag.

Go swimming in it.

Auto's should have a smooth sweeping movement, not a jittery one.

Never buy a quality watch without the box, original reciept, and paperwork.

If you sell them you could always buy some alloy dustcaps and FeuOrange air freshener.....

When I got my divorce settlement through the second thing I bought was my Gucci watch.

Loved walking in there in scruffy jeans and trainers and then handing over my debit card for £800. The assistant was just waiting for it to be declined.

BTW the first thing I bought was my STi8
