Right, need to sort the finances out.. so, does anyone know any good independant financial advisors? Preferably around Notts / Derby area..
Before you all start, I thought about 'investing' in a new Scooby, but already lost loads on the one I've got.. so I'm keeping it for a while longer and trying to make a bit of cash from somewhere (pays for the mods doesn't it)..
Any sensible information or advice would also be gratefully accepted - just don't be offended if I don't follow it..
Are there any financial advisors on here?

Truly proper Independant Advisors are few, far between and very expensive, pretty well all are paid by commission, whether tied or "independant".
Unless you are particulary 'unusual', I'd just wander into a range of high street banks and have a chat with their personal bankers, get as much info as you can on the various products, and work out, based on your risk profile what meets what you need. To be honest, most providers offer pretty well the same products, with small differences in fees/returns etc., and nothing low risk will give you much of a return. Probably the most important thing as a starter is to get into the discipline of putting cash away regularly.

Steve thanks for the information, I've stating looking at stuff from the high street banks but there is not much return is there (I guess because they are 'safe').. I started putting money aside a while ago, but now think it could be working a little harder for me...

Agree with that...the systems a joke with tied advisers and appointed reps to one firm being nothing more than salesmen......and most IFA's being independant salesman!....any work they do for you that doesnt result in you buying something is work they did for free (and how likley is that)
Tiggs (Independant and expensive)

It will all change soon anyway - all IFA's will soon have to offer the option of either paying for the advice as a fee or through commission.
The point being the investor gets to choose which way to pay - not the IFA.
And don;t start me off on multi ties for appointed reps - far too much confusion!
