Derren Brown - nutter!

Well it all looked pretty real to me!
"Choose ONE chamber to put the bullet into"
"When you have chosen that ONE, keep repeating it to yourself etc"
He didn't choose the most easily influenced person for nothing!
Nicely done I reckon
Edited to also say:
If he had chosen me, he would have been a dead man after the 1st time he pulled the trigger

It was all about psychology, suggestion and manipulation
Magic is not the event, Magic is what makes you think the event occured.............

So the master of pyscho body language tricks is going to play Russian Roulette live (with a slight delay just incase it all goes wrong) on Sunday, trying to guess which chamber of the revolver the bullet sits in.
Derren has some very impressive tricks up his sleave - reading peoples thoughts from their body language, but this, (assuming its real) is mad! :0

I've seen him live - and he really is VERY impressive.
How the **** he does most of what he does I just do not know - eg. picking completely random people from a large audience, he was able to tell them their home phone number when given just surname and house number....
....and he swore blind there were no hidden mics and earpieces, etc. - he claimed he had memorised most of the phone book entries for every member of the audience.
His rock/scissors/paper ability is also second to none - again, demonstrated live with random audience members and 100% spot on.
He'll do it, without a doubt. Very impressive however he achieves it.

I too think he's excellent.
But i will only be truly impressed with this stunt if it can be proved that it involves using a gun and bullet which he has *never* handled (and doesn't handle on Sunday) in his entire life, ever. Anything less and it's just down to showmanship in my opinion.

All depends on the revolver. If the barrel is short and the lighting is just right and he is able to look at the gun from the business end, it is fairly easy to see if the round is chambered or not.

Ah, "specially adapted". In the sense that a bullet cannot, in a million months of Sundays, ever be embedded in his head.
Bored already then. Next.

I doubt he's going to REALLY do it. It's like all great magic tricks, an elaborate illusion. If I were him I'd fake it all. Couple of blood packs etc. and we would all be talking about it in the morning He could sit back and watch the DVD sales sore and then, in the greatest magic trick since 0AD come back to life!
If I ever decide to commit suicide I'll make sure to do it live on Channel 4!

he is not a magician or illusionist as he states often. he is merely an expert in the ways of the mind and body language. he is very good at what he does and i am pretty sure hes doing this for real as he was very selective when choosing the ppl to be involved (they had to send him a short video clip of themselves and pictures of where they lived etc.. and narrowed it down

i think the gun is real - as is the bullet.. and after he wins he'll shoot something.
But if he guesses wrong they will stop it from happening... cant imagine the police would appreciate assisted suicide if the crew dont stop it!!!!!!
He is awesome - the way he reads body language and stress tones in the voice is wicked. He's picking a person - so i bet he'll have wittled it down to the "most receptive" person.

lmao @ REV
there's any number of obvious ways the gun can be rigged etc so that bullet can fire when so desires or put on safety less obviously when at head but equally as above i'm sure he will use powers of deduction c/o the helper. The most obvious way is by using timing ie the willing volunteer may not be so innocent & merely reads numbers out in such a way that either by different spaces between numbers or by reading the chamber number which has bullit in at a certian time eg 10 seconds past on for example synchronised his/their clock/watch easiest way with no need to rig owt other than their involvement. Old trick that used to fake pyskik stuff & wot my money wood be on!

no but i was saying its an old trick as has been used by psykiks to fool onlookers, eg 2 people in totally seperate rooms with nowt linking them. 1 choose tarot cards & says yes i'm thinking of it other bloke goes its blah & gets it right because the timing of the other persons i'm ready might be arranged so if a square start at 15 seconds past cicle or wotever 30 seconds past etc etc as long as u both have synchronised access to a time piece then easy money.

ie the fact that blane is getting "volunteer" to stand behind him is of no relevance to when he can give a verbal que although gives illusion of no visibal ques

i applied to do the deed on the derren brown website. You had to answer a series of mad questions like "if you had the power to release an animal and kill an animal from the zoo, what would you choose" and a colour association test etc. I then got an e-mail a month later telling me I had got down to the last few hundred. I had to send a three minute video with a deadline of 6 days. It had to include:
footage of my living area, a description of my hobbies and interests, why I decided to apply, a description of my average day beginning with the words "my average day is..." and finally a dance for at least 10 seconds.
If it was over 3 minutes or under 2 then i would be disqualified. If i attempted to contact the production company for any reason i would be disqualified. The winners would make up the final 100 to be taken down to London for filming where Derren would whittle the remainder down to 6. Sadly I did not win, despite a cracking video. Pity really as I was dead excited.
