Well it all looked pretty real to me!

"Choose ONE chamber to put the bullet into"
"When you have chosen that ONE, keep repeating it to yourself etc"

He didn't choose the most easily influenced person for nothing!

Nicely done I reckon ;)

Edited to also say:

If he had chosen me, he would have been a dead man after the 1st time he pulled the trigger  :D

It was all about psychology, suggestion and manipulation
Thats exactly what it was. He pyschologically convinces all the gullable viewers into thinking he's really doing this for real, by going on endless interviews (This Morning, Radio 1, chat shows etc etc) , manipulates your beleif into its reality by holding an extravagent 'audition' process, whereby he's suggesting that the eventual winner/gun loader really is 'mentally transfering' the loaded barrel to him:rolleyes:

Magic is not the event, Magic is what makes you think the event occured.............

So the master of pyscho body language tricks is going to play Russian Roulette live (with a slight delay just incase it all goes wrong) on Sunday, trying to guess which chamber of the revolver the bullet sits in.

Derren has some very impressive tricks up his sleave - reading peoples thoughts from their body language, but this, (assuming its real) is mad! :0

midget1500 02 October 2003 06:11 PM

sure, he has a 1/6 chance of dying. yeah, he's really doing that - not!

ProperCharlie 02 October 2003 07:08 PM

you can imagine c4 would be well up for getting their cameramen covered in brains...

MrShades 02 October 2003 10:35 PM

I've seen him live - and he really is VERY impressive.

How the feck he does most of what he does I just do not know - eg. picking completely random people from a large audience, he was able to tell them their home phone number when given just surname and house number....

....and he swore blind there were no hidden mics and earpieces, etc. - he claimed he had memorised most of the phone book entries for every member of the audience.

His rock/scissors/paper ability is also second to none - again, demonstrated live with random audience members and 100% spot on.

He'll do it, without a doubt. Very impressive however he achieves it.

TelBoy 03 October 2003 09:40 AM

I too think he's excellent.

But i will only be truly impressed with this stunt if it can be proved that it involves using a gun and bullet which he has *never* handled (and doesn't handle on Sunday) in his entire life, ever. Anything less and it's just down to showmanship in my opinion.

IWatkins 03 October 2003 10:07 AM

All depends on the revolver. If the barrel is short and the lighting is just right and he is able to look at the gun from the business end, it is fairly easy to see if the round is chambered or not.

Cheers

Ian

Scooby96 03 October 2003 10:15 AM

gun is going to be pressed against his temple so he wont be looking down the barrel

STi wanna Subaru 03 October 2003 10:17 AM

as per Blaine........... who cares!

Defiant STI 03 October 2003 10:17 AM

It's actually a specially adapted gun so that no cheating can take place. He was on Richard and Judy discussing it, not that I watch that kind of thing :)

TelBoy 03 October 2003 10:21 AM

Ah, "specially adapted". In the sense that a bullet cannot, in a million months of Sundays, ever be embedded in his head.

Bored already then. Next.

Defiant STI 03 October 2003 10:32 AM

:p I doubt he's going to REALLY do it. It's like all great magic tricks, an elaborate illusion. If I were him I'd fake it all. Couple of blood packs etc. and we would all be talking about it in the morning :D He could sit back and watch the DVD sales sore and then, in the greatest magic trick since 0AD come back to life!

If I ever decide to commit suicide I'll make sure to do it live on Channel 4!

Hobo_Jojo 03 October 2003 10:52 AM

he is not a magician or illusionist as he states often. he is merely an expert in the ways of the mind and body language. he is very good at what he does and i am pretty sure hes doing this for real as he was very selective when choosing the ppl to be involved (they had to send him a short video clip of themselves and pictures of where they lived etc.. and narrowed it down

Jza 03 October 2003 10:57 AM

i think the gun is real - as is the bullet.. and after he wins he'll shoot something.

But if he guesses wrong they will stop it from happening... cant imagine the police would appreciate assisted suicide if the crew dont stop it!!!!!!

He is awesome - the way he reads body language and stress tones in the voice is wicked. He's picking a person - so i bet he'll have wittled it down to the "most receptive" person.

Hobo_Jojo 03 October 2003 11:01 AM

exactly, thats why he wanted to know background, environment etc so if he gets the most receptive the less chance of spreading his brains across there faces :D

scoobydooooo 03 October 2003 11:11 AM

i've got one thing to say " deerhunter " :):)

NotoriousREV 03 October 2003 11:12 AM

Anyone remember when Paul Daniels did the "catching a bullet in your teeth" trick.

I've never been more disappointed in my life...

he caught it :(

scooby_si 03 October 2003 12:50 PM

lmao @ REV ;)
there's any number of obvious ways the gun can be rigged etc so that bullet can fire when so desires or put on safety less obviously when at head but equally as above i'm sure he will use powers of deduction c/o the helper. The most obvious way is by using timing ie the willing volunteer may not be so innocent & merely reads numbers out in such a way that either by different spaces between numbers or by reading the chamber number which has bullit in at a certian time eg 10 seconds past on for example synchronised his/their clock/watch easiest way with no need to rig owt other than their involvement. Old trick that used to fake pyskik stuff & wot my money wood be on! :D
Si

Hobo_Jojo 03 October 2003 12:54 PM

he also doesnt claim to be psychic :p if it was rigged in anyway he wouldnt have been so specific in choosing participents

scooby_si 03 October 2003 12:58 PM

no but i was saying its an old trick as has been used by psykiks to fool onlookers, eg 2 people in totally seperate rooms with nowt linking them. 1 choose tarot cards & says yes i'm thinking of it other bloke goes its blah & gets it right because the timing of the other persons i'm ready might be arranged so if a square start at 15 seconds past cicle or wotever 30 seconds past etc etc as long as u both have synchronised access to a time piece then easy money.
Si

scooby_si 03 October 2003 12:59 PM

ie the fact that blane is getting "volunteer" to stand behind him is of no relevance to when he can give a verbal que although gives illusion of no visibal ques :D
Si

Hobo_Jojo 03 October 2003 01:07 PM

its doubtful that thats gonna happen tho as he would have just chosen any tom dick or monkey.

Hobo_Jojo 03 October 2003 01:15 PM

cool i can say dick and it doenst get censored

CheekyChimp 03 October 2003 01:16 PM

i applied to do the deed on the derren brown website. You had to answer a series of mad questions like "if you had the power to release an animal and kill an animal from the zoo, what would you choose" and a colour association test etc. I then got an e-mail a month later telling me I had got down to the last few hundred. I had to send a three minute video with a deadline of 6 days. It had to include:
footage of my living area, a description of my hobbies and interests, why I decided to apply, a description of my average day beginning with the words "my average day is..." and finally a dance for at least 10 seconds.

If it was over 3 minutes or under 2 then i would be disqualified. If i attempted to contact the production company for any reason i would be disqualified. The winners would make up the final 100 to be taken down to London for filming where Derren would whittle the remainder down to 6. Sadly I did not win, despite a cracking video. Pity really as I was dead excited.

Hobo_Jojo 03 October 2003 01:19 PM

u got ya dick out didnt you? filth!

CheekyChimp 03 October 2003 01:22 PM

na but i'll slap you round the chops with it for being cheeky pop-eye

scooby_si 03 October 2003 07:56 PM

lol mustnt believe all ya see init ;)
sceptic_si

scooby_si 03 October 2003 07:57 PM

so whens it on then i do actually like a bit of showmanship :D? Just dont like BS :p
Si

ajm 03 October 2003 08:04 PM

It would be more impressive if he used a double barrel shotgun!
