How much is too much! I like a nip along with the next guy, but some folk say 1 litre every 6 days is over the top! What do you say?

Probably over the PC limit but I wish I could get a litre to last 6 days Expensive if you are buying that at pub prices though? My gravestone will have "For whom the Bells toll"

The PC brigade say 28 units of alcohol per week for a male. 1 litre of 40% spirit (whisky, vodka, gin, rum, whatever) is 40 units.
Do you give a **** for being PC?

nothing in that mate at all. Me and the wife aren't lovers of red wine (headache material )
We have two double shots a night each in the late evening. personally i think that it helps you relax and sleep better, a perfect wind down from an ar5ehole day
I guess you would prolly be havin around the same as us then

My grandfather used to drink a bottle (75cl) a day most days from the day he retired for about 10 years. He's slowed down a bit now that he's 83......get's my vote, he always said he could drink anything as long as it was wet. He's down to 2 bottles a week now, obviously age catching up with him.

a bottle a day that's going for it a bit.
I used to drink about 3 bottles a week, but have reduced to about 1 bottle now. depends how much other stuff you drink as well.

Port Ellen
Someone gave me a bottle of that stuff the other day - cask strength. it's like being hit in the face by an enormous wet and very peaty thing. had to add quite a bit of water to make it drinkable.
Lagavulin is though.

Someone I know who has sadly passed away at the age of 36 was found dead at home last week. They found 14 empty bottles of vodka - 10 on the bin and 4 by the side of his bed. And those had been drunk in 6 days!

Si - Cask Strength whisky is supposed to have water added to bring out the flavour. So ner ner ner
I'm just not a big fan of the peat drenched style.
S96 - sounds like the person was looking for a way out?

Port Ellen? I've some 30 yo and 25 yo stuff, both bottled at cask strength. The stongest of the two is, IIRC, 61% ABV. You could stand a spoon in it, and without water it's mouth-numbing (though still pleasant). I add a splash of water which probably knocks it down to 40-50%, but it does alter the taste massively; much sweeter and you can savour the taste rather than being bludgeoned over the head with the full strength.
Up in the islands in a few weeks time, so might bag a few new distilleries when I'm there. Anyone know any worth looking round?
