Well, I was due to recieve my redundancy pay today from the job I left last month.
So far, despite my polite requests, he has not provided me with written confirmation of my redundancy and of course, the money has not shown up today.
I want to take him to the cleaners, but with only having a verbal agreement am I stuffed?

Tell him he has 14 days to resolve the situation in full, if this is not achieved then you will have him in court at an industrial tribunal, will be pursuing private action against him for the money and will take action to let people know how his staff are treated.
Put it all in writing saying you have sent a copy to your solicitor and wait for the reply.

Not you as well?
Well, it'd be better to have it in writing but not essential.
You have a right to a P45, which of course you need to get a new job & tax reasons.
My lot haven't paid me for the work I did in August, but they've got naff-all money I know. My 2 options are the small claims court or winding them up. Both'll cost me.
Unfortunately "taking to the cleaners" is not really an option.
Have you spoken to him? Or anyone else in the company? HR/accounts?
My wife always advises to get things in writing, so send him a letter (hand-deliver it if necessary) stating your position. Give him a deadline for some action. If it doesn't materialise go onto the next step.
Bloody pita I know, its bad enough being made redundant, but not being paid for work done is bang out of order

I would give him a call on Monday and ask for the money. If he talks roundabout or no success over the phone, write to him reminding him of his verbal agreement.Meanwhile, plan to take him to the cleaners.Even if it was a verbal agreement and,if redundancy payout (for the amount of time you worked for the company) meets the company policies,he will be liable to offer you the redundancy pay.
All the best!

Thanks for all the reponses.
I have contacted my boss again, very politely asking when I can expect my payment (conceivably the last day of the month).
If by Tuesday I've had no response, a formal letter, sent recorded delivery to my boss and the other 2 company directors asking them to resolve the isseu within 7 days or I will take them to an industrial tribunal (this was advised by the ACAS helpline).
In the meantime, my motorbike is up for sale
As a result of the inconvenience, stress etc. I definately foresee broken legs in someone's future...

Yes, they seem to be getting through more staff than even a poorly run company should
P45 to follow - have run out

Rev,
Gonna be hard without a contract me thinks. I am in the same situation at the moment, Didnt get paid in July and owed a months redundancy money. Ive gone the tribunal route and to be honest its long and convulted, Ive just got a date for the 28th October which is a f**king, I hate dealing with any government bodies, so much paperwork and ineffeciency its unbelievable. There is another option called a static claim, similar I think to a winding-up order which you may want to investigate.
Was it you puff who said you were considering a winding-up order but were put off by cost? I issued one of these when I was self employed and if I was owed I would go this route *everytime*. Why? because its effective, second you can issue one with no legal representation (Just need it if they want to fight the order), cost wise you are looking at a refundable deposit of £500 with the court and I think an additional fee of £150. Some people say its too harsh, I say f**k it! If your owed then you need to collect as quickly and as viciously as possible, your need in employment/business to make friends.

Gary, I think I'll definately be exploring that route, thanks.
Puff, yep, unfortunately, I only have £200 in the bank, I can't claim Job Seekers allowance because the **** I worked for hasn't issued a written reason for the termination of my employment nor can I claim off any of the Redundancy insurance I have for the same reason. The bike will have to go so I can meet my mortgage payments
I fully intend to ensure that my former boss is suspended from being a company director. I know that at least one other former member of staff is having problems so we'll probably get together on any legal action.
He picked the wrong person to try and shaft, I have an amazing tendency toward revenge in it's many forms.
