T610 battery behaviour

I've got Sony Ericsson T610 and the battery behaviour is a bit odd. The "life left" indicator drops like a stone during the 1st day or so and then the phone survives for another 6 days on the last sliver of battery power. Once, the phone has displayed "low battery" then switched itself off immediately with no other warning but yesterday it complained for several hours off low battery before switching off.
I've only had the phone a couple of weeks so it's only had 3 charges including the initial one.
Also, on my old T68i, looking at the phone status told me how much talk and standby time the battery had left. Should the T610 also report this as mine doesn't?
