I hope they throw the book at him, people like this do not deserve to hold a driving licence.
Cheers
Colin
Maybe I'm not the person to ask as I was hit head on at over 100mph by a drunk and nearly lost my life.

Min 12 month ban (more like 18 months as a norm. depends if any other offences are to be taken into consideration)
Fine - dependent on earnings
Ins. - god help him

My brother was prosecuted for being slightly over the Drink Drive limit about 4 years ago and received a 12 month ban and £190 fine. When he got his licence back he found it VERY difficult to get insurance and was paying around £1300 TPFT on a Citroen AX GT (Group 8/9 insurance and worth about £700)
It was good that he got caught, he learnt his lesson and would not even consider driving if he has had a drink.

Mate was twice the limit and got 24 month ban and £900 fine...
ban reduced by 25% on completion of some course or other
thought he was a tool before this happened anyway- this just confirmed it

hope this doesn't cause a flame war but despite the fact that i never drink and drive and i don't condone it i think it's unfair that the insurance co.'s use it as yet another excuse to hit you (after already being fined + banned).

Damage limitation....
Sign up for the "Can't you see I've been bad but I want to be good" course or whatever it is.
Don't drop the motor insurance through the ban period as any NCB can be lost. Cut it back to TPFT or just TP to reduce costs. Another trick is to drop the DDer from the insurance as a nominated driver.
Vindaloo.

similar thing happened to someone I know - 24 / 30 month ban (dunno about fine / points) and has just managed to insure a polo for nearly 800 quid (he's in his fifties fwiw)
family bbq at home and had a few bevvies, a relative wanted taking home - stopped for a rear light being out and breathalysed...

if he's as lucky as the guy that hit me who was twice over the limit, he got a £375 fine £125 in costs and an 18 month ban.
Cheers

P.S. the court dropped the danerous driving to careless driving but he still walked out of court a free man, ME it took me nearly a year to walk properly again and both my legs will never be the same, the only thing that does help is owning my Scoob cos I bought that out of the damages I got.
Cheers
