Jail because your a Motorist. If you where a Car thief a pat on the back from some judge.
Bitter and twisted here.
Serious note its just a fine of about £ 30 i think, but if on way 4 MOT nothing, unless your very unlucky

If you fail to produce a valid MoT certificate when asked, you will get a producer.....ie; 7 days to get an MoT.
As mentioned, your insurance will probably be invalid without an MoT.

I was wondering about this today since I need an MoT, tax and because the post office failed to deliver my documents and my ex-insurance company has made an example of me and cancelled, insurance.
I can get insurance no problem of course, but I can't get tax without an MoT and insurance. I can't get an MoT without driving to the station. If I get pulled over trying to get it all done, will I be fined/get points, or (hopefully) just a producer?
Car is currently off the road and I only need it once or twice a fortnight so it's no bother, but to get it legal I have to "break the law".

Hi,
Taking a 'normal' car for an MOT or back to it's normal residence is OK, even if it fails. Running without an MOT isn't too problematical, normally. Unless you've got a pedantic insurance company. You can get into more grief if you're running around in a car with no MOT and Plod spots an MOT failure report. In that case, you're knowing running an un-roadworthy motor.
Only time that there's a potential problem is with kit cars, home builds or generically anything 'not type-approved'. In theory until it's SVA and/or MOT'd it's not allowed on UK roads. In theory it's got to be transporter'd to/from a VRO or whatever they call them these days. Things might have changed since I last looked.
Vindaloo.

fine for no mot
I got stopped for unwittingly having no mot.
Was offered a £100 fixed penalty but declined as I thought I had mitigating circumstances. Went to court and finished up paying £322. British justice?

If the car is booked in for an MOT or retest and you are travelling on a direct route to or back from the MOT station you will be fine.
Anything else it's got to be a fine and points, could even be car confiscated

I got pulled last year on my way to test station from work, mot ran out the day before, after searching every inch of my car for drugs copper gave me a 14day allowance to get the car tested and had to get it signed and sent to durham constabulary.
I guess he could see i was genuine and let the fine go, glad he did

I would hope that anyone on their way to an MOT test has their car in a reasonable condition in the expectation of passing.
Of course you can still be fined for bald tyres, faulty lights etc. notwithstanding the MOT status.
