ok - heres the deal. we got a GX.
heres the problem. my old man keeps razzing it too the fullest as in 7krpm thinking the GX would trounce a saxo VTR and Im trying to get him to buy a WRX because im afraid our GX engine is going to end up in a field 5 miles from an A-road where my dads thrashing the car. He tried to keep up with a decatted WRX FFS! (nice car guy in liecstershire YR51XXX Blue new age, full family in car)
After last weekends performance of "Its ok at 7krpm for a short while" im getting worried.
ive used
a)the WRX holds its value more
b) you'll get better MPG at 4krpm in WRX than 7krpm in GX for same speed.
c) you're gunna blow up our lovely scooby!
dear oh dear, what should i do to help him decide to get a WRX?

Nah, he will never blow it up if its serviced, built to take it.
I appreciate your concern for your dad's wellbeing but I suspect it has more to do with you wanting a Scoob on the drive any which way you can, my dad convinced himself he was getting a classic, even nearly bought a Terzo, he now has a Rover 216 coupe (dont ask, it was cheap) and gave his car fund (20 grand) to my brother to get his first house !

At the end of the day you wont be able to convince him to buy/drive something that he does not want.
I know quite a few people who are more than happy with their sports/GX's and remind me quite often that there is no turbo lag!
See if he will test drive one at a dealers, he will either love it and want one there and then, or not want to change.

I dunno.... dads are funny.
I tried everything to get my old man to replace his ageing bmw 750 with an E39 M5 but he refused saying he didn't need a big car anymore. Next thing I hear he has bought a Merc S500.... go figure!
Since your Dad already has a scooby I guess the best thing would be, as someone has already suggested, to trick him into doing a test drive, then if he is really into his cars and speed then he should take the bait!
