Question

Is it just me or is the web sluggish and unpredictable tonight. I'm on a 600k connection and its behaving like a 56k modem. Some pages don't load, some take ages. Then it works fine on others.

Anyone else having difficulty ?

Hello

It was erratic at work on our T1 line, and no-one was downloading ****, I checked!

Seems much better now (at 23:30) at home, but I still can't connect to a couple of my mail servers.

Most bizarre.

Steve.

Been having DNS problems lately - sites not found, links falling on their *****, etc.

Seems like it might be a side-effect of the Blaster and Welchia worms...???

(ps, the thing I like about the Welchia worm is that it kills the blaster worm off before infecting your computer; it's like herpes removing syphillis from yer meat & 2 veg before going rampant... a-hem ).

Ouchie to this UK customer I was dealing with tonight who has a /24 within 192.169.0.0 which is obviously 1 up from the internal range 192.168.0.0

So most machines running internal IP's will try the next subnet first. A case of in the wrong place and the wrong time!

From Symantec:

Selects the victim IP address in two different ways: The worm uses either A.B.0.0 from the infected machine's IP of A.B.C.D and counts up, or it will construct a random IP address based on some hard-coded addresses.
After selecting the start address, the worm counts up through a range of Class C-sized networks; for example, if the worm starts at A.B.0.0, it will count up to at least A.B.255.255
