All was fine in my road until the neighbours decided to extend thier house (for renting) and cause 1 too many cars to be in the neighbourhood, my once nice parking space is now unavailable most evenings and my nice Zymoled Impreza finds itself having to be parked under some SERIOUSLY overgrown trees.

Anyone know WHO at the council is responsible for trimming them as I'm sure this would resolve MOST of the problem.

On another note i'm gonna have serious words with the owner of a £200 capri about my £10,000 scooby with £200 worth of polish on it!

Ask to speak to their landscaping team or someone in the property division if the council maintain the trees. Do not phone the Planning Department as its very unlikely they have any responsibility for them.

Yep landscape dept. be smarmy, be nice, they'll come and have a look....failing that, tell them that someone is chopping trees down ***** nilly...that'll bring them running.

Most local authorities have two tree officers - one who deals with tree preservation orders and works in the planning dept., and another one who deals with the council's own trees and works in parks or contracts dept. Not always the case, depends on the size of the authority. Very few still have a "landscape" department. Don't expect to get a particularly sympathetic response if you phone up and say "your tree is covering my car in sh*te. I want it chopped down" The response will probably be "park somewhere else". The more reasonable and polite you are, the more chance you have that they might do a bit of pruning. I used to do this job once upon a time, and it was unbelievable how f*cking rude many people were.

Comments like that really **** me off. Just because you can afford to play 200 quid for polish does that give you the right to park where you like! Does having more money in your pocket make you a better person? I think not!

Edited to add....

I would have words with them if it was my parking space (came with house etc) but if its just open parking get in line like everyone else!

Surely £200 worth of polish will keep the crap from the trees off. It should just slide off!

Does the Capri owner actually live in the road? If he does then unless he is parking in a spot designated for the 'Scoob Driver with £200 polish' I really cant see what your problem is. He lives in the road and has every right to park there. You'll be posting that he's bought a nodding Del Boy for the Capri Ghia and calling him sad next

well, my parents were a bit pissed off when they received a very threatening letter from the council telling us to trim back a tree in our front garden or else face an appearance in court etc...all very heavy handed for a first letter. the tree was growing about 1 foot out into the pavement! obviously some snotty nose feckwit complained

so, yeah, complain about the tree and see what happens

Why don't you pop down the local church and have a word with god too about all the water marks that the rain leaves on your car as well.

It's a fecking car, not a work of art. If you don't want it getting dirty then put it in a sealed glass case FFS.

Well I forgot to add that there is a disabled bay outside my house too! and instead of parking in that he parks behind it and leaves his car overhanging the turning which makes it difficult to turn around / impossible in a large car (its actually illegally parked).

On the point of keeping the car clean, i'm not talking little bits of sap here, i'm talking lots with 10 wasps on it right now getting a meal or whatever they do with it!

On the point of I have no more right to park there than anyone, true, but i'm not the one who has a driveway outside there house and decides its more fun to park elsewhere!!! i mean, they have a drive, a dropped kerb and instead of parking on the drive or outside the dropped kerb (where nobody else is allowed to park) they come park outside my house.

Regardless of cost of car, nobody wants to park under a huge tree, this is my gripe with the council and not the capri owner.

I will take a pic of my bonnet 2nite after being there for just 8 hours overnight and you'll see! its more than just a little crap on the windscreen!

As always, if you aint got something useful to post then bugger off!

UHF has got a point about the tree. When I was a council officer I was quite sympathetic to this problem. At the height of summer, the car can be undrivable (can't see out of any windows) after a day under a common lime tree. If the sap is not cleaned off regularly it will affect the paint.

Big up the carpri driver tho!

yes, the problem with the sap is a problem for a guy opposite too, he has a car which has a completely covered roof, he doesnt use the car for work so its there all day and night, after a week washing it isnt sufficient, it required about 4 washes with hot water and tons of hosing down, its really nasty stuff and i wouldnt wish it to land on anyones car, please dont underestimate how bad this stuff is, more so when you really care for your car and you can do nothing about this.

a car cover in my area, riiiiight!

good idea but i can see the cover going stiff and i'd need the space of my car inside the house to put it cos it would be really really stiff with this stuff

Might give it a go but it would be a hassle every night and every morning as i use the car every day to go to work, but still, you gotta do what ya gotta do

Ok so once the sap on the car cover has solidified you can leave the cover "parked" in a convenient space and everyone will assume your car is under it, thus leaving you somewhere to park when you get home. If you need any more helpful tips just let me know

Or, come to think of it, as you said he doesn't park in his driveway, just park your car in his driveway

I've got it. Put the cover on like Steve says and wait until it has solidified. Then take it down your local bodyshop and have it sprayed the same colour as his Capri, and park it in the bay outside your house. When he comes home, he'll be confused, think he is already home and go back to work again/back to the dole office *
