Im looking for an alternative way of dealing with a problem ive had for a few years. Medication is not an option and Im just wondering how effective hypnotherapy is?

I had it 4 times. 65 quid per session. IMHO complete waste of time. As she was trying to relax me, the old relaxing music was on (harps and sound of water) etc, she was talking to me...you are relaxed, you are relaxed all over, your head is relaxed.....your eyes are relaxed....your eyes feel heavy and want to close.....your face is relaxed...... she then said and this is no sh*t, "you are so relaxed, even your teeth are relaxed and want to sleep". At which point I burst out laughing. She wasnt amused but I said I try it another few times but it did nothing for me.

Previous thread I started re hypnotherapy
The thing with hypnotherapy is that it works for some and not for others
It gave me back my life that (bit of a cliche but very true), after over 10 years of psychological problems, I thought I had little chance of getting back...

Cost me £40 per session... and after 10 sessions I was effectively fixed, now go every 3 months for a check up (so to speak)
May seem alot of money but personally feel my mental health was worth every penny and after 10 years I would of payed £40,000 if I'd had it....guess it depends on how much you want to get better
Agree that I would choose and research your therapist very carefully.
Never liked the idea of coming round to find my wallet had been fleeced and I had a sore ****
Cheers

PS Anyone that wants any info on hypnosis etc then feel free to drop me a line. Can obviously only say how it helped me with regards to anxiety/panic/depression, as each case is different but would recommend it, especially if you've tried ant-depressants and all the other anti-anxiety meds that tend to just mask the underlying prob (IMHO)...

May well work but will take a long time to complete the sessions and will cost a packet from what I have heard.

worked great for me.
had a fear of exams. so just before my gcses i had one session of hypnotherapy.
i was certain it hadnt worked cause i felt as if i was conscious and in control the whole time. plus in the run up to my exams i was still getting the same old **** scared feeling.
but as soon as i got in to the exam...all my fear went.
has been the same ever since...for a-levels and degree.
i think you just have to be open minded. people who it doesnt work for i think arent susceptable because they dont believe it will work.
IMHO anyway

Started a few weeks ago!
Didn't work at first but it's worth giving it a few tries. IMO really important to feel totally comfortable with the hypnotherapist, who hopefully should have a sense of humour! Some of the stuff made me giggle at first but he just let me get on with it then carried on...
