there are new panasonic 6 and pioneer 434 series just arriving or due this year, which I suggest you find to see what the latest market leaders look like.
I'm biased as I have a pioneer 433mxe which blew the rest away when I compared them.
try never out of debt...

Have a look on AVForums for advice, but the general opinion is that LCD tv's are gonna kill the Plasma market dead in the water over the next couple of years. They're cheaper to make. and so when they get their grip in the market they'll be cheaper to sell. They're more reliable. All are TV's instead of awkward monitors with no tuner or speakers (expensive con). They don't require the cooling fans used in plasmas and so are quiet to run.
Try this 40" from Samsung for a start. It's the 1st large scrren LCD but if you can hang on, more will soon follow.
Before you buy any electrical product I recommend a visit to here first.

Yes I second Brendan's question coz I'm looking at these too. MY son has a back projection jobby but you lose the picture if you get too close or to the side of the screen.
I'm intrigued as to what the differences are between the plasma and LCD.

plasmas go from 28" to 88" whereas LCD finish at 30" (excepting the one 40"). A basic 42" plasma Samsung (horrible - I tried one) costs approx. 2k which I think compares pretty well to an LCD.
There's also the issue of the LCD has lower power consumption but you lose the 160 degree viweing angle that plasma has...
I really feel you should get some factually based opinions..
Oh no ! I've turned into Mycroft...
