Any surfers (water not PC!) able to offer advice to a newbie?

A group of us are going to Cornwall this weekend. We have a days tuition booked in to start and leanr to surf and then a day for whatever.
If we are really really crap at surfing I expect it will be out with the boogie boards
My main question is with regard what clothing if any you use under a wet suit? I have been told that the rubber will make the under arms very sore without the use of a 'splash vest', whatever that is?
Cheers

A splash vest is a very thin t-shirt worn under a suit to stop chaffing - its very similar in feel to cycling tops but softer..
..get a roll neck one - I get most chaffage round my neck.. dont really suffer under arm pain but I know some people do..
..enjoy it - just remember the "hire" boards are pants but theres no point in buying a custom if you're not going to use it often..
..at the end of the season is where the deals are to be had on ex-hire pop-out boards (non carved fibreglass - from a mould) and also cheap wetsuits..
..have a good un - mail me if you need anymore info
Cheers

just as a quick ad on to Rich's post, take a pair of shorts with you as well to stop the shafing at the top of the legs if it happens.
and a lot of places call splash vests - Rash vests or Rashies, as with above the roll necks are a lot better and worth the extra couple of quid.
where abouts in cornwall are you going?
Steve

Thanks for the replies guys.
I think I best get a vest. My skin is quite sensitive to chaffing. Don't want to ruin my weekend.
We are off to Harlyn.
