Hang on, i feel some rules coming on 
You have to put what it stands for aswell, hell you could be just putting up random TLA's for all i know

Edited as I've got it a little wrong (I shall campaign the cambridge/oxford dictionaries to have it my way in due time )
Brendan, I meant that people are posting acronyms. The thread title is for abbreviations.
Anyway, why is abbreviation such a long word?
WRX could loosely be described as an acronym as some people pronounce it 'Works'.

an abbreviation consisting of the first letters of each word in the name of something, pronounced as a word
abbreviate verb [T] [passive]
to make a word or phrase shorter by using only the first letters of each word:
'Daniel' is often abbreviated to 'Dan'.
'Chief Executive Officer' is abbreviated as 'CEO'.
