Driving through Towyn(Wales), got pulled over by the serious crime squad, the usual rigmarole.......
Is it your car?
Have you any documents?
How long have you had it?
blah, blah, blah..
Then he went to his car and produced a camera. He took a snap of my plate, then he proceeded to write me a ticket, which took him twenty minutes. Illegal he said, jobsworth tw*t!
£30, no big deal, and I know the plates not right, but it was the attitude, like it was crime of the century.
Anyway rant over.
How many chances do you get with the camera bit, does anyone know?

havn't a clue about the cameras!! the police regularly stop us asking if the car's ours (blah, blah)but they've never had any other reason for stopping us,except once when we had the fogs on ....whoops! i know it's sh1te when they pull you for your plate, but with all the scoobs that have been nicked recently, maybe it's a good thing that they seem to be stopping so many of us. i suppose they're all keeping a lookout, doesn't stop you from thinking "f*** off and leave me alone" though sometimes it just seems they don't have anything better to do !!

Yoza,
i believe its 3 times, when i had my GSXR i put a nice little plate on her, but was told on the 3rd pull they take u to court and take the number of u and re-register it with a Q plate, which de-values ur car straight away.
But check with 5ive-0 they should help u

Ive been pulled for forgetting to turn my front fogs off and got the attitude, "do u realise there is a £2000 fine for driving with those on" blah blah blah.
Anyway a few months back I was reading Autocar and there was a readers letter regarding front fogs / driving lights and when and where you can/cant use them, anyway to cut a long story short there are about 5 or 6 cars which can be legally driven with the driving lights on at anytime of the day or night (they dont explain why, which would have been nice) and hey presto the Subaru Impreza was one of them, I wished i'd kept the article, but im sure if I waved it under plods nose it would only p1ss them off even more. Does anyone else know of this "list"?? I'd be interested to know the reasons why we can use our driving lights, what the criteria was and why only 5 or 6 cars made it through. Maybe a post for the general forum.

FUNKII MUNKII,
i don't know of the article, but we were told that it's illegal to drive with fog lights on ,unless it's foggy,as they apparantly dazzle other drivers ,i've never noticed fog lights dazzling us before,so ???. personally,i think them halogen bulbs are more dazzling when they come from the opposite direction, they make me blink anyway !!!!!!!

Also, you can apply to have a special addition made to your driving licence which enables you to legally drive with driving lamps on in *any Car* at any time of night or day. If you contact pslewis, he will give you details of how to go about getting this special licence.

Yoza, when they asked if it was your car you should have replied " IF IT WASN'T I WOULDN'T BE HERE TALKING TO YOU WOULD I" probably would have nobbed him off no end but worth it to see the look on his face.

To summarise, keep your fog lights switched off unless:-
a) Its actually foggy
or
b) You drive a Citreon Saxo
The actual offence under the Road Traffic Act - Construction & Use Regulations is - "Misuse of Auxillary Lamps" and carries a £30.00 non-endorsable Fixed Penalty charge.
Cheers
