Need to remove my personal plate and put it on retention, has anyone done this recently?, wondering how long I'll be without my V5 log book.
The car will be issued with the plate it had when I bought the car.
Thanks for any info.
Would try ringing DVLA, but I've not a spare 2 hours to wait

It takes as long as it takes it seems
In the past I have waited from between 1 - 6 weeks to get the V5 back.
Re. getting the orig. number back: doesnt always happen but make a point of asking (saying the windows are etched often helps)

Flat4- You may well go to a DVLA office but you don't get you V5 back there and then!!
I've waited anything from 2 weeks to 6 weeks.
I guess it's the luck of the draw.

Ok, I'm planning on going into the local DLVA place this arvo', was hoping on a quick turnaround on the V5 as I have a potential buyer for my car.
I do hope this isn't going to take me weeks to get this V5 back
I'll ask if there's anyway of them photo-copying the V5 and stamping it or something to prove I have posession of it before I hand it over for the reg change.
Thanks for the info

Mega,
I would wait until the buyer has seen the original V5 before doing anything mate.
I had a plate on my Scoob, took me over 4 weeks to swap them to the new car and replace the Scoob's plates with ones from DVLA.
Complete nonsense, having to send back the V5 with the new reg, then send it back AGAIN with the new owners name on it.

Done it now, got the bottom bit of the V5 stamped and dated by DVLA, they say they process the forms within 5 working days, but getting the new form may take several weeks
