Having just "discovered" Rammstein (yeah, I'm late, I know) and having "acquired" more than a few mpegs, I have to say I'm totally, utterly, and completely hooked. Snow White amongst gold miners has a certain appeal and the uncensored version is better than what Kerrang is showing at the moment. I haven't got a clue what's being sung but this band are awesome so I'm off out to buy "Mutter" in the morning.
Meanwhile, I was wondering if they did any songs in English? I gotta admit I'm seriously tempted to buy their Live In Berlin DVD, and that's something I wouldn't have considered doing with any other non-english speaking/singing band in 25 years of listening to rock bands.
Very much in the same vein as Die Krupps but far better I reckon ... what are the chances of worldwide domination if they were to sing in English or do you fellow metal-heads prefer them signing in their native Deutsch ?

Much better in German, the words seem to cary more feeling due to the harshness of the german language.
There's nothing like screaming down a couuntry lane with Feuer Frei blasting out the speakers

There are English versions of 'Du Hast' and 'Engel' - and they're rubbish, IMHO. This sort of music isn't about the words, and German just fits the overall sound much better. The German vocals have power and impact that are completely lacking in the English version.
If you buy the 'Sehnsucht' CD you'll find that there are actually English translations in the booklet of most of the songs. Suffice to say that they probably wouldn't get radio airtime in English - for example, 'Tier' ('beast') is about child abuse, 'Spiel Mit Mir' ('play with me') is about... well, use your imagination. As for 'Buch Dich' ('bend down') I don't even want to go there. Get the idea?
Fact is, the Industrial scene in Germany is just much bigger than it is over here. Bands like Funker Vogt (never heard them? make the effort!), Die Krupps and Rammstein are practically mainstream. I bought 'Mutter' from a supermarket in Munich after seeing it advertised on bus stops. When was the last time you saw any music other than the latest manufactured rubbish advertised like that over here?
BTW 'Live aus Berlin' is good but I prefer the studio material.
Andy.

Manowar - need we say more
The bad bit about Rammstein being in German is the tendancy to translate mentally as I go down the M25 - well it passes the time

Maybe i'm getting old, but as one of AC/DC's biggest fans, i was told i'd like Mutter.
But to me, it's just shouting for shouting's sake, and lots of the tracks sound very similar. I was glad when the cd ended. And the fact that i couldn't understand anything they said didn't help, though i take the point it doesn't translate well.
Each to their own i guess. For me - pass thankyou. Anybody want a cheap copy of Mutter??

Rammstein are excellent. I think the German langaue sounds aggresive and goes with the music. Very brave though singing in German.
There is loads of indistrial stuff over here. Nine Inch Nails are the daddies though.

I have just heard Rammstein "sing" Stripped in English and they sound really wierd. I think their sound much suits the German words and accent. They just sound odd in English.
Telboy, if I were in the UK I would grab it, but shipping costs would outweight me bothering.

Well, after a couple of days listening to Rammstein (bought 3 CDs) I've got used to the signing in German - the gruff vocals really do go along with the music.
Only problem now is that I'm having a bit of bother trying to sing along reading the lyrics off the CD insert whilst driving
Brilliant stuff tho' - it's the band that Metallica could've been.

Joey, I didn't mean that they sang a song translated into English, I meant that was the first time I had heard them sing in English.
If I had put that song would sound better translated to German and sung by them, then it would have been clearer.
