I can help you with that mate.
Been racing for over 14 years managed to become national champion
in 1997 1/10 scale saloon(electric)
If you want to hack around the street then any thing will do.just make sure you can get the spares easly.
But if you want to go racing you will spend alot of money best to stick to 1/10 scale you can get any body shell you can think of if you go bigger the choices are much less. There are more tracks you can race at as well. but there are some things you have to think about ic is harder to start with. Mainly starting the engine!!!
if you cant tune a carb the fun stops there! And theres the noise
not so many clubs around.Electric is best plug in and go, just like a playstation.A basic kit will cost about £250-300.
This site is the dady of racing http://www.brca.org/
And this is a mate of mines shop http://www.dms-racing.com
just say mick penfold recommended you (his name is darren and hes getting an RS focus soon B****d)
That should get you started
mick.

If he's serious about racing nitros and 1/10th scale there is only one or two chassis/engine combos worth buying. I'd recommend a Serpent Impact or Impulse. Foams or rubber, its up to him to decide what he likes best. I race 1/8th scale's, mainly Serpent's Vector with a 3.5 cc Meha Nova engine, 0- 60 in 2.5 secs and 80 mph @ 40,000 rpm. Not really car park stuff though
Serpent do have a kind of car park racer though, the Impulse Street Spec, it has 1hp and was voted by American R/C car action mag as R/C CAR OF THE YEAR, it costs £150 and can be seen here:

Or try http://www.mytsn.com/ for the real deal.

p.s I don’t really like electric cars, no noise or smell, each own I suppose, but the smell of niro and the sound of 40,000 rpm soon gets in your blood, and ask any serious electric racer about battery life and cost, chargers and winding motors LOL
Pity there are so few decent nitro tracks though

try looking on this website www.brca.co.uk for loads of links to other r/c car model shops, some of the websites on there are pretty good for all the spare parts you would need.

JYE, can you help me with a little problem with my 1/8 motor??
I got my flying point 'probe 21x' last night but I cant for love nor money get the thing to fire up. It hassent been run for about 2 months. Had lots of naerly starting moments tonight but just didnt quite get there.
Anyway, from what I can see it doesnt seem to be picking up the fuel, I take off the top pipe and blow untill fuel comes into the carb but after a few secs it just works its way back down and wont go back up by itself. Any idea why?
Cant wait to get it out running properly, this is supposed to be a competition car and is expected to reach 70mph rather sharpish acording to the previous owner. also has a few racing its o it.
Cheers.

crypt, try strting it with your thumb over the exhaust...
this pressurises the fuel and will get all the air out.
once the fuel has entered the carb, give it two more pulls with the thumb on, then pull a few more times, until started.
have you a new glo-plug, or another to test.
is the glow started charged sufficiently??
is the needle valve out about 2.5 turns from closed position???

BB, the glow plug is fine I checked it last night it was glowing for England but it wont take any fuel up atall even with my finger on the exhaust.
It needs a new shocker and top arm as the previous owner hit a car wheel with it. The parts are going to take 2 weeks to get here.
Cheers for the advice though.
