Has anyone been enjoying the nightly re-runs of what are probably the best comedy progs of all time.
Jeez, Basil Fawlty must get the PC brigade hopping mad with views on Germans, Spanish, Americans, Gays, women, children, old people, black people, etc...etc.. The list is endless.
Personally I ROTFLMAO at every programme. It's the Germans turn tonight LOL

Nice, I have them scattered around on various old tapes. Never tire of watching them.
Can you imagine such a programme being made today? The outcry from the PC brigades would be shrill in the extreme
It's a really intersting reflection of how society in this country has changed since they were made. (1976?)

9:00pm BBC2 every night this week.

LOL I was struck for the first time just *how* unPC Fawlty is when I was watching them last week. Wasn't going to mention it (or the war ) but since it's come up.....well it would a crime not to

Fawlty is non-PC he's also the buffoon of the show and the butt of all the jokes- his racist, homophobic attitudes are what make him such a figure of fun.
We're laughing at him not with him- well most of us anyway.
That being the case I have no problem with the show as it satirises such attitudes.

It still holds its own after 28 years.
How many of today's so called comedies will be able to claim that when they're that old?
Royle family, perhaps?

You're 'avin' a giraffe. No chance.
The major is brilliant in this episode:
Major "I Love women..., hate Germans!"
Polly "What about German women?"
Major "...good card players!!!"
LOL
My fave FT episode is the one where the mouthy American bloke arrives.
That's not till Friday, but I look forward to seeing it.

I used to love FT, but to be honest I seem to cringe more and more now. Its still fantastic when you see a favourite clip but its been a while since I watched a complete episode. Of course a few secs is all it takes to remember the entire episode. I still find it hard to believe there were only 12.....
For me though, its the Siberian Hamster epsiode that tops the lot

Polly, yummy, Basil Fawltys wife in real life of course!!
The classic one is O'Rielly the builder, when Cybil comes back and tells O'Rielly to clear off - O'Rielly smiles at Cybil - Basil covers his eyes and says, 'Oh my god don't smile!'
Cybil, 'You find it funny do you O'Rielly?' 'I love a woman with spirit Mrs Fawlty' replies O'Rielly
Cybil, 'Oh you do, do you?'
O'Rielly, 'Oh, I do, I do, I do!' smiling again!
At which point Cybil attacks him with her brolly!!
Absolute Gem!!!
