How the hell did he do that? I bet if I even tried that for 20 seconds I'd end up needing a new front end.

Cool

Simon de Banke (or Webmaster to this lot) managed a controlled power-slide for a total of 2hrs 11mins & 18secs to set a recognised Guiness World Record in 2001 at MIRA in Northampton

That is the equivalent of going from London to Swindon on the M4 - Sideways

Respect

Well Luke, if you can drive from London to Swindon - sideways - in under that time, then you get my respect...

Cool

What still gets me about SdB's record is he did it on the same set of tyres. Over 2 hours isn't bad tyre life for full-on sideways action ...

Same set of tyres! Of course, they could hardly change the tyres mid-skid could they

Question

I thought skidding and power sliding were two completely different things? Not to detract from SDB's achievment in anyway of course, more FHM's understanding of car control

FHM are right, it's a power-slide, since the sideways action is held under power. A skid is unpowered. If SDB had managed a 2 hour skid, he'd have had to be going pretty fast to start off with.

I don't have a copy of FHM in front of me, so the only reference point I have is the pic posted earlier, which said 'power slide'.
