As per a previous thread about Reading, my company is relocating there and Im looking to buy my first house. Im skint so it looks like £150k is my limit. Any suggestions as to where would be the best value for money within a 30 mile radius of my work, which is pretty much bang on Junction 11 of the M4?

Thanks,
Simon.

Seriously, I used to live near Reading. 150K isn't going to get much. In Reading itself you could try a ****hole on the Oxford Road or around Cemetery Junction. I wouldn't park a nice car overnight in either place.

What I was trying to imply was I dont really want or can afford a house in Reading. So Im looking elsewhere i.e. anywhere within 30 miles. Basingstoke and surrounding villages look quite good so far.

I know £150K aint much but its all I can stretch to unless you have a spare £50k you want to give me

What sort of property are you looking for?

BTW I'm not an estate agent!!! In a similar (will be) boat to you.

Is Middle Wallop within range? I've always thought that would fun address to have

What about down the M4 towards Slough, for a reverse commute and hanging out with the Langley massive?

Im getting a relocation package which pays for certain costs associated with buying i.e. surveys, legal fees, stamp duty, registry searches etc. I get a lump sum but as far as I can tell that is only used for fixtures, fittings, appliances etc. However the package has not yet been finalised.

Im looking for a house or maybe bungalow as my parents have a massive one and they can be really nice. Definetly not a flat/maisonette. 2/3 bedroom (assuming 3rd is a box room) with a decent sized lounge and an ok garden as I like my BBQ's

Good luck then, P1!

You can't get what you want as far north as Birmingham these days.

If you find a good 2 bed flat in an above av area within an hour (by rail)from London that you don't fancy, let me know (serious).

P1F,

I currently live in Alton which is around 23 miles from the centre of Reading. The drive to Reading is an absolute minter - lots of twisties - and I don't think it is overly hit with traffic for the commute.

I am currently selling my 2 bed maisonette for around 140k but 3 bed houses are going for the 150k mark if you are willing to do a little work to them. There is also a lovely new development where all the property companies are offering excellent deals on purchases.

Anyway, thats my 10 pence worth. Give me a shout if you'd like any further info.

Cheers,

Rich

You might just scrape a 2 bed Victorian terrace for £150k, but it will need some serious attention - fine if you're into that sort of thing. Caversham is a reasonable area of Reading, but you'll be facing on-street parking and you need to be home before 7 to get yourself a space.

I'm selling a two-bed coachhouse in Hatch Warren, Basingstoke very soon. It's a half hour drive to the centre of Reading. Nice place, new bathroom, spiral staircase etc. No chain either. Email me if you're interested!

Wokingham? 150k? I don't think so. :-(
I relocated from Birmingham down to work in Reading just over 6 years ago, moved in to south oxfordshire in a small village 7 miles north of reading. For your money and that distance I'd look around Dicot if I were you. You might stand a chance. Good luck anyway.

You'll get a place in Wokingham for 150. Similarly the nicer estates in Bracknell are around 150 for a 2 bed.

Depends what your after.
