Illmor engineering have banned employees and visitors from bringing these devices into their premisis for fear of industrial espionage.
I wonder how many other companies will follow suit.
discuss?

am not surprised at the ban just at how slow they have been to react.
Taking a photo of the info is the same as photocopying / copying disks both of which usually run the risk of copyright and or theft of intellectual property

TBH i had not thought of their use in this context although it would be all too easy to. I imagine a lot of compaines will follow suit, not like you can monitor what the phones are bieng used for in the same way you can have some control over email, internet, even photocopying.
You see someone wandering about with a camera in a sensitive area (no smutty remarks) it might raise suspisions, now a phone is a different matter.

That may be because the government employees will find people who can read and write a threat to them and their positions

totally agree with you there. It is very easy to take photos of unsuspecting people and post them on the internet - I'm guilty of doing this to POC on SN but only cos I know him! I wouldn't do that to anyone else as I wouldn't like it done back to me!

After we 'bankrupted' our business in Tenerife, leaving 5m euros debt, we had a meeting with the 'loan supplier' who made us disconnect all mobiles and searched us for bugs.
Needless to say - it was them that had been doing he dogy stuff, not us!

I know a lot of gyms are also banning camera phones for fear of "pervs".
Mobile phones (cameras or not) are banned on most govt. sites for obvious reasons. If not banned, they are not to be switched on within buildings. All depends where you are and what is on the site.
Chris, DERA is now either DSTL or QinectiQ as they have been split to make the govt. loads of cash by selling off the QuinectiQ bit.
Cheers
