Advice on choosing a DVD R

Wondered if any of you people could offer any advice on buying a recording DVD? I know there are 3 different recording formats. The two main makes seem to be Philips (one type of recording format) and Panasonic (two types of recording format). What is the advantage of Multiregion ? Does it make much difference ?
Anyone got any good experiences of either of these dvdr brands?
The Panasonic dmr50 MR I can get for just over £315.
Your advice is appreciated,

I Need To Get Out More
not as warm and cuddly as SN (in fact they're a bit ****) but the techy stuff is useful.

Actually its a damm good forum,helped me out with loads....although i did get a one week ban for advertising something for sale while selling it on E-Bay at the same time.....bit harsh i thought

Sorry SS - should have said nerdy - I'm not sure some of them could find their a*rse.
