Round Table

So come on then, Steven, tell us more about it. The only guy I know who has joined is one of these "old before his time" kinda guys. (Not that he's not a good guy! ) I can't help think that if they're all like that then it can't be too exciting!

Throughout the year, meet fortnightly, we have pre arranged events to do, followed by a social meal and a social drink, with the occassional business meeting thrown in.
So far this year, ones i can remember, we have done the following:-
Clay pigeon shooting (last night in fact)
Go Karting
Tour of a brewery
Shooting on a rifle range
We have done many other things in the past, that i would not even think about doing, like jet skiing, scooba diving, architechtural tours (read as visiting famous pubs), etc, etc
You have to have the odd business meeting thrown, it deal with things, but they are a laugh tbh.
Have an international trip each year, and this year we are going to the Munich beer festival, thats just my local table.
Theres a national sporting weekend, apparently brilliant, i have only helped at the one held in York, but they do say they are good.
Theres loads of things, but generally a great time just socialising, and there is absolutely none of this funny hand shake malarky, otherwise i would not be a member.
The clever thing to do though is to get your wife/partner to join Ladies circle, the female equivalent, and then they can enjoy it too.
Absolutely great fun IMO.

No problem, sorry about the poor grammar above, rushed answer.
I was a guest for 2 years before i actually joined, so find your local one, get in touch and go along as a guest for a few events, get the feel of things
If they are a good table, you should enjoy it, honestly.

Yes, and pround of it
Past Chairman of Jersey Round Table No. 192 in 2000/01
Still in for next 5 years until I hit the upper age limit of 45.
I have a fantastic time.
I have posted this before on scoobynet but not got much response.
Considering that Round Table is for guys between 18 and 45 (ie average 30 - 35) who like drinking, socialising, drinking, fund raising and drinking, I would have thought that there must be thousands of potential Tablers on here?
In addition to the local fun, Round Table is an International Organisation so you are part of a great body of people. The fund raising can be amazing. In 1999 we raised money for a kids trauma centre in Kosovo when the war ended. I flew down there just as the fighting stopped to ensure the money went to the correct place and see what was needed. 6 months later I drove a minibus down there to deliver it to the kids. Driving across mine fields at night was great fun. Never let it be said that Round Table is boring or for boring old farts.
In 2000, I joined Round Table Hungary for a trip to the Formula 1 race. Their Chairman had blagged passes to the pits on Sunday morning which was priceless.
New members are always welcome.
Many employers also see membership of Table as a valuable addition as it shows that someone has initiative and helps in their local community.
But most of all it is great fun.
And did I mention the drinking?
We have done away with the goat aat the induction ceremony although we did bring a goat along to a meeting a few years ago just to wind up a new potential member. Wind ups seem to form part of the fun

Since typing the above I have just received details of our next event . Please see below for a flavour of Table taken from the offical notice of meeting just sent out to Jersey Tablers from our secretary:
All,
Jon Smith has asked me to distribute the agenda for the next Business Meeting, so please find it attached. This will give us the traditional quarterly opportunity for everyone to lob random alcohol-fuelled opinions into the air with all the grace of a giant diesel-smoking bus with hundreds of ebola victims on board throwing dead wombats and rotten cabbage at other passing cars. Business meetings always seem to resemble a herd of performing elephants with diarrhoea -- excessive, difficult to redirect, awe-inspiring, entertaining, and a source of mind- boggling amounts of excrement when you least expect it.
Please accept my apologies, I shall miss the angling event next Tuesday as I shall be in London teaching some people about Information Security. Have fun, and remember that there's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore looking like an idiot.
Best regards
I think that perfectly explains a typical Table night

Scooby Regular

Just like to say that due to this post I got in touch with my local table and went along last night to my first meeting.
We went Quad Biking on the side of a mountain, and it was a superb evening, everyone really enjoyed it, all the blokes were really friendly & not dorky, and it was followed by a good pub meal & a few decent pints.
Thanks to the people who posted which encouraged me to contact the Round Table - I never would have dreamt of going before, as like many people I didnt understand that the round table isnt a fuddy duddy masonic like ritual, just like minded youngish blokes who like to have regular evenings out having a very good time & drinking!
Its funny how people percieve organisations like this, and I'm as guilty as the next person.... odd really.
Not sure what they can do about it either. Most round tables are losing members as they get too old, but the younger people dont come in to keep them alive, as it not seen as 'cool'. Apparently our table had scores of members, whose fathers had been tablers, then the sons had joined and so on - just doesnt happen anymore.
So everybody get in touch with your local table - they'll be pleased to see you!
p.s Quad bikes - **** me are they fast! - Thought my scooby was quick, but these babies really accelerate...
