Cool

Did a quick web search and came up with many useless sites....this was about the most informative and this one explains the number bit

I am one of the lucky peeps to have low blood pressure (normally under 100/70 )

I would hope that the 30 is the diastolic number, it is still incredibly low!!! Has your friend had any recent trauma (not necessarily physical)? Hope your friends gets well soon.

A friend of mine has been taken into hospital with extremely low blood pressure. All I know at the moment is the figure of 30. I know blood pressure when taken is always a figure over a figure and that the lower one is the important one [I think].

What are the consequences or causes of having very low blood pressure?

You get very faint - normal blood pressure is usually described as something like 120 over 80 (which is normal). I don't know what the 30 represents, but hope your friend is better soon

Hi,
Thanks very much for your concern Lynne, it is much appreciated.

The lady in question is my partner Nicole.

The figures the hospital gave me are 30/60 oir 60/30, i cant remember But they have confined her to bed as they say its dangerous, but they cannt find the reason as yet and are running further tests... its been like this since saturday night.

Her major complaint has been diagnosed as Anxiety and OCD over the years but im led to believe that low blood pressure can casue this so maybe shes been unlucky it hasnt been spotted before?

Im hoping very much that this is the case.

Thanks for the replies folks.

Best Regards,
Stu

That is why blood pressure is reported as two numbers, e.g., 120/80. The first, higher number (systolic) is the pressure of the blood against the artery walls when the heart contracts (e.g., 120). The second, lower number (diastolic) is the pressure against the artery walls when the heart relaxes between beats (e.g., 80).
Desirable blood pressure

Desirable Blood Pressure
For Healthy Adults 120
80 systolic
diastolic

Any blood pressure reading that consistently stays at 140/90 or higher is considered high blood pressure.

Low blood pressure
It is rare that a person has blood pressure that is too low. For some young or small people, a blood pressure reading of 90/70 or even 80/60 is perfectly normal and healthy. When their blood pressure is really too low, people feel dizzy or light headed every time they stand up, or they always feel tired and lacking energy.

Get well soon

Thanks for the comments folks,
I feel better knowing what the terminology means.

Ive just spoken with Nicole and the initial figures for 24hrs were around 60/20. Now 60/30.

They still dont know why so are doing blood clot scans today (hopefully, as they were supposed to do them yesterday )

Thanks again folks.

Best Regards,
Stu

Low blood pressure is commonly caused by drugs such as the following

Medications used for surgery
'Anti-anxiety agents'
Treatment for high blood pressure
Diuretics
Heart medicines
Some antidepressants
Narcotic analgesics
Alcohol

Diabetes is also a known cause..

A friend of mine used to play ice hockey and do lots of sports in general. His blood pressure is so low that when he sits down on a sofa, he normally falls asleep Not sure about the levels, but could this be a reason for you gf's LBP? Sports?

My blood pressure at it's best is 90/50 but that's due to a accident where I broke my neck.

I've lived with light headedness and fatigue for 20 years now but then that's easy compared to the paralysis

I was also asked once by a Doctor at a hospital if I was an athelete because my blood pressure used to be low.

I was also an ex-athelete Red and motocross champ so i guess my fitness may have contributed to it.

It certainly helped my rehabilitation.

This doesn't apply tho in Nicole's case - it's something else causing it and she is too young to be always feeling sh*te all the time

Thank you all very much for the comments and discussion, its really appreciated.

Ive just returned from hospital and they have completed their tests....

Blood pressure at the moment is 65/36. She still feels weak, light headed, very tired, anxious and depressed.....all very much the norm for Nicole.

Medical verdict....

Thats just how you are im afraid.

Surely this cannot be right?
Is this just another fob you off if we cant see anything wrong NHS tactic?

There must be an explanation / medical reason to have such an extremely low blood pressure. It cant be normal to always feel weak and dizzy.

I would go see another doctor or something. FFS, "that's the way you are"! That's a fvckin joke, mate!

I agree M8 and shes been in this sinking ship for years now.

I cant see a doctor can do anything at all over whats being done so i dont know what i can suggest to help her.

Shes been in Blackpool's Queen victoria Hospital since Sunday morning and that opinion is from the hospitals cunsultant not a GP or Nurse.

When she arrived they tested her bllod pressure and wheeled her straight to a ward and put her to bed with a bed pan and told her thats too low for you to be walking around uin case you pass out.... now the same low level is perfectly acceptable

Im gutted and im sure Nicole is even more gutted

thanks for taking the time to reply though
