well gradually been weening myself off the booze. Just had my first weekend of zero alcohol for as long as I can remember. I feel ****ing great. I sound like a right alchy but got to the 'offy last night and just turned right around and went home again. The £5 note that would have been pissed up the wall is still in the top drawer
I have to say I do feel more 'alive' at the moment since cutting down
I do have these cravings though in the evening...is this normal?

Just as an idea I gave up the booze completely in Dec 02 for a month. Just decided to give it a go.
Was easy even with all the parties around etc. Just made more friends acting like a bloody taxie LOL
Didn't make a lot of difference - still hated the mornings

I hardly ever drink these days. I've probably had no more than 20 pints this year (and 18 of them were in two nights ).
Like smoking, I don't really miss it, and find I feel livelier and more energetic.

I've been a bottle of wine a night man that began to drift towards a can of lager followed by a bottle followed by a short....reckoned I was starting on a slippery slope and action was required and pronto

the thing with booze it seems to creep up on you and before you know it you end up necking loads of the stuff and don't even notice the effects
A few weeks back I could happily have the best part of a wine box and not feel 'pissed' this is what triggered me to give up for a while to
a) see if I could do it
b) see how I felt
I was drinking to stop worrying about stuff but I was finding I needed more and more to stop worrying....the funny thing is drinking less and now none and I am not 'worrying' at all. How weird is that. Makes me wonder how much booze can **** up your brain?

Leave all my drinking to Saturady mainly.
I never really bother during the week, but on a Sunday i always fancy a couple first thing in the morning It's probably the comedown from the previous night.

I got wrecked on Saturday night for the last time. I have been on the 'slippery slope' for ages. Bottle of wine a night or a few cans. I was off work last week and sat at home drinking most of the day (well, I was on holiday!!) Anyway, I decided to go a day without a drink and it was really quite hard. I feel I may have a problem but I'm going to sort it out starting now (well, yesterday actually!!) No more alcohol for me!!
Hope it's easier to give up than cigarettes were!!

I find I have a craving between 6.00pm and 8.00ish - this is when I went to the offy to get a 4 pack. Funny though it is I remembered 'Fash' saying focus focus on I'm a celeb...etc etc and I just said that to myself and headed home again. I feel better in myself and richer on account of the fact the £5 is still in the top drawer
Now I know why people have trouble giving up ciggies
Half the frigging country is probably addicted to booze and don't even know it

zero - yeah, i know what you mean. I did not drink any beer for a week a while back and it was hell! if i sit down infront of the TV i do crave for a beer but i think it is more out of habit than anything else.

I'm gonna give quitting a go too.
I can't remember the last time I went to bed without booze inside me. It must be a good 4 months or more.
Bad really.

this was the first weekend in years and I mean years when I wasn't on the booze...how bad is that?
I have got the supermarket to go this evening too, a whole two aisles of temptation...
Hopefully I'll have the willpower to ignore it

on the 17th of last month, I decided enough was enough So I said to myself, I'll quit for a month
So far, I don't feel any better. But my moods are a little better, cause I can be downright awkward & anti social at times Physically, I think the lack of Stella Artois is showing I was never fat or flabby, but there was a spare tyre showing, probably inflated to 12psi or something Nothing noticable (except to me)
My wallet probably is a bit better, but I haven't really noticed
I suppose we will see when the month is up, but I don't expect to feel a great deal better than I am.

I've gone the other way- I spent 7 yrs ish tee-total and have now started enjoying the odd glass of beer and wine. I try to drink only the highest quality wines and beer- no Stella here!
I find a little drink in moderation to be life enhancing. The problem is I suppose that if you drink to much it detracts from your enjoyment of life. Everything in moderation.

The other thing I've never really done is drink at home. If i'm in then I don't feel like a beer at all (call me a social drinker hahaha).
Over the weekend some mates may come back after the pub and we'll do a few cans but thats about it.
I think that solves a lot of possible issues.

BB - trouble is that lack of "moderation" is usually what the problem is in the first place. It's been a long time since I accurately counted up waht i drink, but i reckon it's less than it was. However, I would guess that in a typical week I would get through about 1 bottle of scotch, maybe 20 pints and 2-4 bottles of wine depending on dinner parties etc. If i decide to drink less it will be like, maybe nothing on a monday. it's hard to make moderation work in my experience.
