Forgot to renew my road tax today as I was stuck in work, runs out tonight. This wouldn't normally be a problem as I could do it on Monday. Unfortunately (or fortunately ) I'm sailing to France at 07:15 Monday so won't be able to tax it till I come back. My question is how long do they give you to tax it (or provide SORN) before issuing a fine? I will be back in the country 17 June, will this be too late?

Thought about getting a mate to tax it but you need the insurance certificate to do this. I also need this when travelling abroad.

Any thoughts

Si

I'd have to send my certificate of motor insurance to DVLA but at the same time carry it when driving in France.

Thumbs up

I think you'd get away with it it'd just get backdated to the begining of June though, and anyway if this is the same car as is going to France for the duration you can't get done for it can you as it's not even on our roads, sorted

The fines don't start until January 2004 so don't worry about that. Just don't carry anything naughty back from France because if I was a Custom's fella I'd be stopping the car without a valid tax disc for a closer look......

Question

Not a solution to your problem, but why can't we pay our road tax by direct debit. It seems to work ok for the TV license.

Cos then they wouldnt have to see proof of your insurance. That said I know of a handful of people, including one toyota dealership that have forged cover notes...

G

Never heard of a post office open on a Sunday, is this unique to Scotland?

Mike

Worth a try, does anyone know of a post office open on a Sunday in the Cardiff area?
