just got this puppy at the weekend. no clear skys to use it yet
anyway a few pics for ya
It is the new Meade LXD 55 Schmitt Cassigrain 8" model. focal length 2000mm with a ratio of F10. Same optics as the big daddy LX200 series. hope to use it for some astro photography when i can get another £1000 gathered together for the camera (and i thought a scoob was expensive to run).
The Scope assembled
The Meade Auto Star that makes finding stuff in the night sky a doddle.
The right angle adapter with 26mm (x50 mag) eyepiece in place
The 8" corrector plate with secondary mirror
the German Equitorial Mount (GEM) that allows me to track any object with accuracy (thats were the nice pictures come in)
For the kind of images that can be taken with this kind of scope take a look here
cheers
big sinky

Whilst on the subject and you'd be the one to put an answer to it...
At night time with a clear sky, you can sometimes see what I've been told are satellites. All you can make out is a kinda of light moving across the sky. Its too far away and fast to be a plane.
Just wondered if it was or not as we were discussing this the other night!
Thanks Nath

They are satellites, or maybe the International Space Station. Have a look here:

register where you are and it will tell you when and where to see them all.

Alpine99 - i have another 10" telescope i could let you have for £250. no gadjets just loadsa light gathering power.
andrewdelvard - I just popped the scope up in the garden for pictures. i would normally take my scopes to dark site about 20 mins drive from Belfast. I live on a main road and i have big halogen lamps that go all round the garden, great for the scoob, crap for astronomy. for comparison, in the garden i can barely make out any stars above 1.0 magnitude with t he naked eye. at a dark location i can make out about mag 6.0 which is 100 times dimmer.
47NAT - you would be surprised what is up there m8 both commercially and military. Some like the ISS can be seen with a telescope like this.
Sheepsplitter - you know me sooo welll m8
Les - hanging baskets are spot on. the house is a listed building dating back to just before 1900. can't really do alot to the house (read absolutely nothin). you gotta admire the work though, those sandstone walls are 24" thick. they don't build em like this anymore
cheers all
