Is he;
a) a hugely influential musical genius, or
b) a whinging, whining, slurring/squeaky-voiced, over-opinionated, over-rated creator of non-music using (badly) possibly the most irritating musical instrument ever devised, aka the harmonica?
For the sake of impartiality i won't tell you how i stand on this personally...

it's true that his harmonica "playing" leaves a little to be desired but overall he is imo one of the most influential musicians/writers of the 20th C. How many people could claim to have made at least 10 albums that are genuine classics? At his best, no-one can rival him.

So how many times do i have to listen to the drone of the harmonica before i begin to like it then?
I mean, i've even grown to love Trout Mask Replica, so i'm pretty open-minded musically, but Dylan? in my opinion, he just happened to be the man-of-the-moment, in the right place at the right time. If anybody created a noise like that these days, i reckon they'd get absolutely nowhere, cos it just ain't nice to listen to. Maybe i'm just missing the point...

the man-of-the-moment
He has been a huge influenceon so many major bands and continues to make great music. The harmonica playing is a required tast but the lyrics he writes are still great.
Listen to "Positively 4th Street". He really hated the woman that he wrote that song about.
