Thumbs up

I have'nt played propery for about 2 years now, but unfortunatly most of the clubs do have a high standard dress code which I can't be assed with.

To be honest though after working in an office all week, in the summer it's lovely to get out in the fresh air and get some exercise.

Not everyone who plays golf is stuck up, I wore a multi coloured tie dye polo shirt after some members complained about my mode of dress. I then went straight up to them and asked if they preferred that or the smart T-Shirts I had been wearing upto then. Once they'd finished laughing at the shirt they had to agree things were better before. I now turn up and wear more or less whatever I please, as a newcomer to a club you have to tow the line to start with but once you get known they'll cut you some slack.

Don't let em put you off, we need less stuck up old gits playing so we can take over and change the rules!

It's also a great game for getting you into the great outdoors and socialising.

Cool

Whats the difference to loads of other sports that have dress codes too then?

I'm a golfer - haven't played for ages but going to the range to get back into it, don't see the issue with whacking a pair of trousers on and a polo shirt........

Another good reason to play is that it's a game requiring constant improvement. It also feels great when your driving and hit the sweet spot and send the ball flying for hundreds of yards.

It's also a great opportunity to win money off people who should know better.

I cant get to grips with golf. I have been on a few corporate golf day things. They have bloody big pitches, one tiny goal, a round penalty area with shorter grass than the rest of the pitch, a corner flag for a goal keeper that you can take out when you get close, not many players, you have to hit the ball with a stick and not kick it, it bloody hurt whe8 games, and when I slide tackled the guy with the ball they sent me off the pitch !! And I may have taken his legs, but I did play the ball first. What sort of a game is that. One for people with silly clothes and stuck up attitudes.

tow the line for a while and then get yourself and a few mates organised to take the complete p1ss out of the dress rules.

We used to have rules which stated that a collar was a must in the clubhouse, with no denims and no shorts either in the clubhouse or on the course. Proper golf shoes were also necessary.

Four of us turned up to play an interclub competition wearing golf shoes, swimming trunks and a collar. This was not specifically forbidden in the rules so they let us go ahead, but changed the rules to forbid swimming trunks, and specified that a shirt and collar was now necessary. We arrived for the next round wearing skirts and teeshirts with collars attached with safety pins. They gave in and now allow demins, shorts and tee shirts, as long as you look 'smart casual'

FB - Even though they've relaxed the rules now, is it true you still wear the skirt?

TBH, I'd rather get my fresh air, excercise, and break from the telly by hairing down a mountain on a bike. No dress codes there (although tight shorts are positively encouraged ). Each to their own though.
