I want to buy a DV cam but don't know which one to get. Looking at the cheaper end of the market but have no idea what to look for. Are there any decent site I can look at with reviews etc.?

sony are quite expensive for what you get. JVC seem to have a good name but you need to spend around £500 to get a half decent one. i managed to get a jvc dvx9 on ebay for half price and only 9 months old, so you might want to try there.
av forums seems to be a good place to start.

i got a canon 450i with firewire etc to link to pc.
has dv in and out, some cheaper ones only had out.
the quality is good, however my filming ability is not quite tarrantino!!!
theres lots to choose from so take your time and try a few out.
also make sure you get a few spare batteries, they will be worth their weight in gold on odd occasions (provided you have charged them up, of course)
Good luck

Being a mad enthusiast I've ended up with some great DV cams which I use for making fly on the wall docu's and other 'stuff'; You do get what you pay for and saving a few hundred quid will only cost you more once that you either get depressed at the quality and don't use it much or you end up buying another better one. Waiting a bit while you save a tad more or getting a slightly bigger loan could be worth it.
From practical experience I personally don't rate JVC's and do think that Sony's are a safe bet. Panasonic's are ok too. For standard domestic filming make sure that the low light performance is good and try and get an optical image stabaliser. Also, make sure that you can attach bigger batteries as going away for a while may mean that you need a bigger battery.
A very useful site to check out is www.computervideo.net and use their excellent message boards. It's like ScoobyNet for camcorders!
Cheers!

Get one of the new Panasonic GS range. Excellent features, small Mini DV cam (hand held size) for between £550 and £650.(high street). JVC are regarded as poor by the industry, Canon and Sony are good alternatives but pricier.
Check out Kelkoo and you can get them as cheap as £420.
Edited to add link to GS10
