How does one raise charity money?
#1
Hi guys.I work in a hospital with kids.I want to set up a service there that helps the children with the pain they suffer after operations. For this I need about four 'machines' that cost about £3k each,so £12k.I'm trying to get the money out of the hospital management but they as always are strapped for cash so looks doubtful.
When I worked in hospitals like Great Ormond Street they had no probs raising money since its a high profile place. The hospital I'm in now is just your average district general. How does one go about raising this capital from charitable sources?

Ask everyone on here for a fiver......."dont ask dont get" and all that.
Whats a fiver anyway.........30 odd miles in petrol in my car
How many members do we have?
Say 3000,of which 1500 may read this,of which 1000 may give a fiver, which gives kids in pain £5000,thats nearly two machines.
Try it see how you go.
Ill go first where do I send my fiver?
Make a signing in chart to show people who have donated and try to up date it once you have recieved their money.
Good luck Yoza

He's just come back from a fundraising trip to New Zealand with a group of friends, and they raised £140k for their charity!!!
I'm sure he'll offer you some advice.

Yozza thats very kind of you.I w'ont collect any yet until things are sorted, but a truly touching sentiment, thank you.
Some good ideas,I'll try roundtable website.
Burr,what do you mean by 5ive o?
Thought about the celebrity thing, maybe I'd get a better response if the celebrity was from that local area.Does anybody know which celebrities are from East London/Essex?
Many thanks for all the input so far.

WWW.5IVE-O.COM Is a BBS run by coppers
But do not fear, they give impartial advise to us,when we need it.
Go in and have a look around, and ask about raising your money.
There should be plenty of fivers knockin round in there

Fair enough.
House purchase doesn't look like it's going to happen. Surveyor's valuation gave the value as 40k more than the offers-over price, but it looks like it'll probably sell for another 40-50k on top of that. So about 100k more than the asking price on the schedule. Too rich for us.
We'll put in a bid though, but won't be surprised if it's beaten by several tens of thousands.

You could try your local Round Table.
Round Table is a club for men aged between 18 and 45. Its sort of a "social club with a concience". We basically have lots of fun and also raise funds for good causes at the same time. Ask your local newspaper for contact details and they may be able to help you out.
Web site is at http://www.roundtable.co.uk/
