Not used Ebay to buy or sell, but want to set up an auction to sell a mobile - have some questions?
How much do Ebay charge for the auction?
What method of payment would you accept?
Any other advice to an Ebay virgin

£2.50 per listing.
Accept payment by bankers draft, cheque or cash by registered mail only.
Never send goods until funds have cleared and advise buyers to pay for registered postage on goods for insurance and state that you accept no responsibility for uninsured items that are list in the post.
Hope this helps.
PS: What phone are you selling?

Cheers for that - didn't think about the insurance part. Suppose they could claim the phone was knackered when it arrived through the post and get stroppy.
Phone is a Nokia 3330.
£2.50 - Ebay must be raking it in!

I personally only use Paypal to pay for items.
That's personal choice though.

Think there's a problem with my profile as it won't let me edit:
Get the above message even if I try to immediately edit a message (so definately logged on okay) or if I try to re-enter the logon details.
Cheers for the advice anyway

Listing fees on eBay start at 15p
The full fee structure is at http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/fees.html
What you actually pay depends on the start price, reserve, additional features etc. Then there are the Final Value Fees and if you accept credit/debit cards via aPayPal there are the PayPal fees.

I've had an absolute nightmare with Paypal, taking funds from my account without permission; without me even using the service in fact!! Then unable to tell me why it had happened, after faxing 4 documents to approve my account, the funds remained with Paypal, as they do to this day (4 months on).
check out www.paypalsucks.com - have a browse through the forum before you decide to let paypal have you bank/credit card details.
But at the end of the day - it's your choice.

£2.50?? no no no Badger,
Typically when I list it costs me about 40p, you have to spend more if you want things like, bold entry, gallery photo, additional photos, reserve price, featured entry etc. but overall its pretty good, paypal used it alot with no probs, others have, could always consider nochex as well.
Good Luck!

If you intend to sell on Ebay, then be very wary of accepting Paypal. A friend sold a laptop on Ebay, the buyer paid by Paypal. When the laptop arrived he reversed the Paypal transaction. So effectively getting a laptop for free. My friends account is now showing a minus balance. Paypal is the most unsecure way of receiving funds if they can let anyone do this. Paypal also refuses to accept responsibility for their actions. Personally I will NEVER accept Paypal on one of my Ebay auctions.

Nope, it's not £2.50. As said above it depends on what your starting price is, what/how many pics you put on (1st one is free) and final selling price (they take a percentage depending on final bid). You can find all the fees on Ebay.
I also "nearly" had a problem with Paypal too.........I sold a phone and the buyer wanted to pay via Paypal so I said ok and went through the normal process. As soon as I done this the buyer kept e-mailing me saying please send the phone ASAP etc etc, this got me a little suspicious.
So I said I will send it when funds cleared, yet again he said he needs it now!!!. Then a few days later (payment takes 5 days to go into your bank account) I had an e-mail from Paypal saying they were taking the money back from my account as they believed this person had paid using fraudulent ways!!!!! and said hope I haven't sent my item as nothing they could do
So I was very lucky that I didn't send it, and trust Paypal, as I would have sent the phone and been out of pocket!
I thought the idea of Paypal was to be able to send stuff straight away as the payments are secure etc and genuine!
So just be careful, I now only send items when the funds are in my bank account

Does your username match exactly (capitals and all) in the edit post box?
Cheers for all the advice on Ebay - I'll give it a go for real tonight once I've taken a piccy of the phone. Thought £2.50 was a bit steep

be careful if you are a seller using paypal.
Especially if they pay by credit card and are international. Have heard a few horror stories were sellers have sold things, been paid via paypal and sent the goods. 3weeks later paypal takes back the money as it was international fraud - do a search ..

I recently purchased something from the states using Paypal, and my credit card company phoned me to ask if this was a genuine purchase by me, this was before they would authorise it
