Right I've got the go-ahead to build my own house...
So any ideas where I can look for some land?
Seen lots websites but they all seem to want money upfront
So if anyone knows any good places I'd love to know!
I'm looking for a Swindon/Wiltshire location with/without planning permission considered!
Cheers,
Jon

I'm looking to build near to or in Swindon...
Where are you looking to build?
A couple of people I've known have built houses in Lancashire and there have been a couple of threads on Scoobynet previously about selfbuilds/grand designs etc.
Anyway thanks to financial/work circumstances now is an ideal time to start a build. So I've just got to do my best find some sensibly priced land!

polar - you will need deep pockets. A quick look reveals: err... nothing at all around Swindon, and no actual plots at all in Wiltshire as a whole apart fron Chippenham. Two plots for 3/4 bed detached dwellings. And the price?? 350K each
Don't go into this thinking it will be easy. Building the house is the *easy* bit. Getting a suitable plot with OPP is not
Sorry, to answer your question. Buy the mags, there are plots advertised there. That'll give you a picture of the plot availability 'profile'. My advice - *don't* buy a plot with no PP (there will be a reason why there is none) and beware of 'private sellers' go though estate agents.
Of course, family contacts, word of mouth etc is a good option too

Depressingly familiar UB.
In S Hampshire it is far easier to just buy and rebuild as plots are almost nonexistent.
(Bonus is services are already connected )

Hi Polarbear - still got the skyline ?
As has been said - swindon costs a fortune and what there is is snapped up by the developers. Theres some kind of innercircle for the good stuff in swindon (I've been looking for ages) The stuff thats left is crap and costs a fortune. Get yourself down to Devon mate. Nicer down there anyway

Yep, still got the skyline...
I've been offered some land in a not too local wiltshire village at a reasonable price - only problem is lack of School in the village (but I guess I can't have everything!
Most depressingly I recently missed out on a burned down building in Old Town which went for £77k

Have a look here. It is a subscription service but it does chuck out a lot of information. If you want to take a punt, there's plots for sale at Baydon without PP, but at £2.5K for .10 Ha, you might not go far wrong.
Best of luck!
