[pic prob fixed - thanks SL - though me still confused]

Dammit! I’ve just had a test drive in one of these V8 VVT 315BHP 330 Lb Ft 4X4 20” wheel’d X5 munching mothers. My STi V will soon not be big enough for kid/dog but it will kill me to sell it and accept peanuts for my lovely Scoob, so i want to keep it!

“The new Infiniti FX45 is quicker than Porsche's new Cayenne S with 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds”

Basically it’s a posh Nissan and costs about £25k cos things are always bigger and cheaper in the USA than in rip off Britain.

Has anyone imported a car from the US? Pay the VAT and do an SVA I guess? Getting Fed Exe’d spares are no issue - not that you need spares as Infinity is the most reliable JD Power marque – esp compared to the hugely negative ratings of BMW and Jeep.

Someone tell me to stop being silly, please, and just get a domestic 100BHP Freelander for the same cash?

D

Thumbs up

Does the £26k include Import duties....

They will account for about another £10k if not.

Is the import duty as bad if car is, say, 12 months old?

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Infiniti's are rather nice! I've seen one of these beauties up close, and it's lovely! huge fagging wheels too! much be 20 inchers!

I also like the Q35 Coupe, with Brembo brakes similar to the beloved STi!

Am kinda temped by one tbh, or a vette

stevie - you pay duty and VAT on the invoice price, so technically it is cheaper as a used car costs less, but percentage wise it's the same

Duty AND VAT? How much is duty? Is this applied only to non UK made cars?

It is a 'beauty' in the way a Scooby is beautiful!

Too early to get them second hand as they only been out a couple of months unf...

You'll pay 17.5% VAT on the invoice price and then 10% import duty on that total, so I assume your invoice price is £25k, your total price to import will be around £32,300 plus SVA which will be around £500 (maybe, bit of a guess), so not such a bargain after all that

Still nice though

That is really bumping it up now! Still cheaper than an X5 and 4.6 Range Rover though, but then I never could have afforded those (hence this 'brilliant' idea). Pie is starting to float towards the sky

D
STOP PRESS - I have just heard they may be cheaper in Canada

Talking

Against my better judgement, I quite like the look of this. Much better than the Porsche or the new VW.

Don't spoil his fantasy!

Have you checked out servicing, parts availability, etc?

If you're impulsive (like me) you'll get one if you really want one!

Not only is this fantasy, but there is an element of Robin Hood about it

Basically it's a Nissan, so I am not worried about servicing (rose glasses still on of course ) Ther's also a big American car place in Kingston 3 miles away... Dammn it gets even better!

As to resale, I have a 28k Scoob with 3k of mods now worth £13k after 23000 miles - so that is clearly not an area that I have any interest in . Just get the car you want

It drove sooooooooooooo nice dudes Radar cruise control, rear camera, sat nav, keyless entry, even got the trick anti skid business for the missus (+ the switch off for me)

Import cost would work out at
Car + Shipping + Customs handling fee, x 10% x 17.5%

Costs on a 9 grand car in foreign country cost 2.5k so you are looking at appx 7.5k

They get you every way they can

Canadian Folder

FX35 $ 52,500

FX35 Touring Package $ 60,000

FX45 $ 59,900

FX45 High Technology Package $ 67,400

American Pricing

FX35 $ 38,300

FX35 Touring Package $ 45,645.00
F
X45 $ 46,870.00

FX45 High Technology Package $ 52,370.00

so, lets see what that equates to.

Using www.xe.com:

FX45 High Technology Package $ 67,400 = £29,312.26 (Can $ to £)

FX45 High Technology Package $ 52,370.00 = £32,967.71 (US $ to £)

So it's a bit cheaper to purchase it in Canada.

Thanks for the math Markus! Big useful saving in Canada it seems. Now how about I give you the cash, you run it for a few weeks and 'sell' it back to me for $15k off. Should save another few thou in import duty and levies This just gets better - and it will even arrive quicker from Canada compared to being sent from here in Miami! Love it

If I take the plunge (following much more research) I'll be sure to let you know it wasnt all hot air

Yes, it's just a V35 Skyline Coupe. One of the Infinitis (forgot the exact name) on sale there is actually a Nissan Gloria with a Q45 engine in it.

Driving a LHD in UK is not an issue (tried it with an Integrale - absolute piece of cake) - especially as with this one you will be looking over the top of most things!
