If you wish to report a vehicle that appears to be unlicensed, the details should be sent in writing to your nearest DVLA Local Office.

The details must include:

the registration mark;
location of the vehicle;
the make/model, colour;
wherever possible, please provide:

the time it can be seen on the public road;
name and address of the owner;
The information provided can then be used for further investigations by an Inquiry Officer who will make a formal sighting of the vehicle and complete a witness statement.

Alternatively, you could complete a witness statement yourself; these are available at DVLA Local Offices or you can download a copy by clicking here. You should be aware however that if a statement results in prosecution, a copy has to accompany the summons and in some instance the person who completed the statement may be called as a witness.

Click here to find your nearest DVLA Local Office

Please note.......... Although it is a legal requirement to display a valid vehicle licence whilst the vehicle is on a public road, it may be possible that a vehicle is licensed without a licence disc on display

I shouldn't bother - you'll get nowhere.

Last year my neighbour and I shopped a young lad who insisted on speeding around the locality in his XR3i with an expired tax disk afixed to the windscreen.

The police refered us to the DVLA who were too busy to investigate.

I was surprised the police weren't more interested as speeding was mentioned and that seems to be their prime concern.

Regards,

tiggers.

I had a dumped car blocking my driveway (didnt know that at the time), but its tax disc had expired, phoned plod and told them I wanted it moving and the tax disc had run out, they said they tried to get hold of the owner but he was ex-dir. !!!!! f**king unbelievable, anyway the council towed it away a couple of days later.

Well, my girlfriend bought a car a couple of years ago which didn't have any tax on it when she got it. She immediately phoned her insurance company to get the relevant documents so she could tax it and in the meantime she put a note on the window explaining that she was awaiting the insurance docs. In the 4 days it took to receive the docs she had 3 fines for no tax (the car hadn't moved, it was stationary all the time). When she phoned up to explain that it was impossible for her to get tax so the fines should be revoked, they said "just pay us now to avoid going to court, and we'll refund you when the paperwork is sorted" She did this and about 3 weeks later she received a letter saying that her claim had been refused and that she'd have to pay a further £150 costs.

Well, there's no way I'd let her pay the w@nkers so I told her to ignore it. She kept receiving court letters etc. but nothing ever happened about it, thieving gits!!

They place you in a catch 22 situation, how can you legally buy your tax if you don't have your insurance, but it takes a few days for your insurance docs to come through so in the meantime you just have to pay the fines? Pah, no chance!!

If someone doesn't pay road tax then just let them get on with it. Lifes too short to waste time shopping someone for a trivial tax evasion. I mean for Christs sake get a life....I pay road tax and bitterly rue the fact that sod all of it goes to actually improving the drivers lot. The exact opposite in fact.
Too many people in this country are busy bodies who can't stand to see someone "getting away with it" particularly if they have to pay for it themselves (and wish they didn't). No one likes a grass either.

The other side to this is that maybe said people dio not have an MOT or Insurance, you need a current MOT and Insurance paperwork to get tax or the car may be knicked anyway. a lot of people driving about like this, they could cause accidents with non roadworthy vehicles and have no insurance to pay for repairs and even worse cover someones injuries or even death due to them.

I grassed someone up for bald tyres - Family of five in an old Escort, three young kids and two adults - tyres where so bald you could see the string type stuff. Ploitely mentioned to the chap that his tyres looked a bit worn and was told to F*ck off - called local plod and 'grassed' him up, not for my satisfaction more for the sake of his family!

.

Well I have to say I'm aware of that as an argument, very possibly they won't have insurance etc. I also believe in personal responsibility and if they choose to live like that then I won't be making it my business to shop them. In fact a lot of people I know drive exactly in that way ie without insurance, tax etc as a result of the recent congestion charge. They just buy junk cars from auction, private sale etc then drive them round accruing parking fines, speeding fines etc etc. Totally irresponsible I agree but the fact is many, many people do. I won't be making it my business to shop them, no one likes a grass. BTW many of the people I am talking about are white collar professionals so I'm not talking about hardcore crims.

I don't believe for one minute that if everyone went out and insured their cars that our premiums would drop by one penny. Its all hype.

Have the guts to go round and confront your neighbours instead of weasling behind their backs like a nonce.
Face them like a man and ask them why they have no tax...either that or stick you beak out of their business

So, if your next door neighbour was robbing banks or beating up little old ladies you'd say that was his business too?

Who gives a **** if they have no tax?

It's a risk 1000s of people take, just like not having a tv license or no dog license in the past (millions didn't bother).

If you get caught then it's your own fault.

It's not as if the road fund cash is spent on the improvement of the roads or public transport.

True.

But there are so many loopholes in the law to do with insurance, registration, etc.

I know someone who uses his vehicle to drive in and out of th C charge zone 5 days a week without charge; he speeds through speed cameras and gets booked almost daily because he bought his vehicle privately (a banger), but the vendor foolishly gave him the complete V5 and took no details.

The vehicle in question had 6 months tax too. Happy motoring.

Screw you and your crim mates if I and anyone else wants to report an offence then they can do so and you can stick your beak out of THAT business. What a bunch of brain dead comments you make.

I can't believe people are advocating doing nothing! Stick your head in the sand, all will be fine.

FFS, shop him/her. Even if nothing's done about it, at least you did the right thing.

It's not so much advocation it's more that it's menial.

The only people concerned with tax avoidance are traffic wardens. An even thay don't seem to care.

I was recently working just off Barclay Sq and there was a Mondeo parked there every day for 2 weeks with its tax 4 months gone and it never once got a ticket. And that's in the land of the b@stard warden.

andrewdelhard or whatever your name is

There was a question asked about road tax, I gave my answer if you want to act like a weasly little grass then feel free to do so. I'm not a crim thanks very much for asking I just don't like grassing people up for minor offences like road tax.
If we are talking murder, burglary, etc etc then of course you have to report it and if needs be stand up like a man in court and give evidence.
As for sticking your beak into other peoples business do it like a man and confront them in person. I guess that wouldn't be your style though.

Jesus I really wonder about some people on here sometimes

Could some of you be any more "self rightous"

I have a feamle friend with an "02" reg car who refuses to buy tax for hers now its expired after the 1st year of ownership..

Her reason to the officer when he stopped her? I'll start buying RFL when you start fixing mine & all the neighboring roads

Good on her I say!!!!

Are you the sort of people who "grass up" people who's dogs **** in the park because you have nothing better to do?

Dear Dizzy,

I'm not bothering with my plus membership anymore- it was just for a laugh- lets face it I wouldnt want anyone to think I actually paid £25 for that rubbish.
As for going round and confronting them I was saying if you want to be a busybody then have the guts to go round and do it in person. Otherwise act like a squirmy little rat and report people to the authorites- no problem. In my opinion people who do that are cowards and vermin.
