DVD playback ..B&W only....

just got myself "The Recruit" to watch. used afew of these DVDs before with no problems.... Whats with the "B&W" thing!!! Is this it or do I have to go into the DVD set up etc????

a mate has the same problem with copied DVD's. my player works fine with them whereas his shows them in B&W. only thing is that his player is older...

A B&W picture usually means that your DVD player is set up for S-video but the TV is expecting Composite, or vice versa. If ALL your discs show this problem, this is probably the cause.
B&W can also happen if you have a disc recorded in NTSC (the US format) but your TV only understands PAL. This is most likely the trouble if you only have a problem with US discs or copies that have been incorrectly mastered. The cure in this case may be to set your DVD player to output in PAL60 (if possible), or to buy a better TV.

my pioneer did this.. had to take it out of auto mode.. and manually set it to pal..
Also try the other scart socket on your tv.. (some tellys only support ntsc on one socket)
Its almost certainly down to ntsc.
