Hi All,

Don't know if this belongs here or in the electrical forum, but here goes.
Anyone out there care to share their experiences of using their speedcam detecting thingies? Stuff like the Geodys range, Road Angel, Origin blue i etc.
Which ones are best to go for, and as my scooby is gonna be fitted with a Trackstar does anyone know if having another GPS based device will cause any problems? Either with the Trackstar or with the speedcam widget. I could call Trackstar and ask them, but I'd rather hear if from the horses mouth first, in a manner of speaking
Also, although most of these devices seem to plug into the cigarette lighter, there is quite a lot of associated paraphenalia that comes with them, so is it better to get these things professionally fitted?

Thanks!
aj

Crumbs! 26 reads and no responses! Have I broken some unwritten rule here regarding speedcam widgets? Is it not the "done thing"?!

nope,
I got Bel550 - not bad but I'm not convinced about the effectiveness of lasers, forward facing cameras or the specs.
I think some of the others use GPS to locate all cameras, live or not and then flash when you come towards them. Sods law says the one time I forget to download it, I get done!
edited to say we had Trackstar and had no problems.
The Bel plugs into the cigarette lighter so no need for professional fitting unless you really want to waste money!

Origin Blue I are good but reliability is a problem. I am waiting for my 6th unit in 15 months now.

I ran a Geodesy 'basic' in my Scoob which also had NavTrak ProActive and it was fine.

I've had my Geodesy since Jan 2001 and it had to go back once when I managed to download a corrupt database onto it.

It's worked spot on otherwise, not missed a trick

Thumbs up

I ran the Geodesy on the dash of my Impreza with a Trackstar fitted and had no problems with either.

i got a bel 980 (approx same as 550 euro) works a treat on gatso - esp nice as it spots gatso's with no radar so you don't have to slow if it's in a ££ grabbing location rather than built up area. bad at picking up false alarms from garages etc. never been knowingly hit by laser, so don't know if it works. truvelo is pressure sensitive so it won't pick those up and specs is dig imaging so no good there either.

As an FYI, I've found that this website has reviews of most of them:

after collecting 6 points I acquired a Snooper S5, Road Angel and SLD200 for the front.

12 months on I can recommend the Road Angel, especially when in unfamilier territory. The S5 gets carried away near petrol stations and traffic lights but does provide some helpful noises elsewhere. The diffusers have gone off once and I couldn't see anyone.

and no more points ! (yet)
