You win a holiday voucher for £100 or something.
Trouble is, the holiday has to cost at least £3k, or thereabouts.
Some of these texts have a URL where their T&C's are listed. Take a look. They're very interesting to say the least

I got one recently and O2 has some promotions on so I thought it was something to do with that. I called the number as it was free and was told I won £400 holiday vouchers and to send an email with your name, address, the time you called and your claim code. It gave a website for me to look at too but when I tried to view the site it was unaccessible.
Didn't bother sending my details as I certainly wasn't giving out my address to anybody!!

@ £ 1.50 per min it is a con in the same way i used to get pestered by 'overnight' faxes offering great deals on cars, holidays, etc or asking you to vote on several subjects at *** per min.

I know couple wif teenage girls who totalled a bill of £500+ on their bt landline per quarter ringing these numbers. Ouch.
They approached BT about it but they have to pay the bill.
(Not bt’s fault anyway.)

Have a look here http://www.fpsonline.org.uk/fpsR/html/default.asp this is the FPS (Fax Preference Service), and there also links to the Mailing PS, E-mail PS and Telephone PS in the top right of the page.
Unfortunately I am not sure whether they deal with mobiles, but if you are receiving unwanted marketing stuff you register here and they put you on a list - once on this list it is illegal for marketing companies to contact you. As it is, they shouldnt contact you without your permission anyway.
I contacted the FPS because I was getting faxed at all hours of the day and night constantly - thing is I dont have a fax machine and they were trying to fax me on my telephone line, so I was getting woken up during the night constantly - It has not happened once since I put myself on the list.
Perhaps not quite the right thing for text messages (although you may find some help if you delve into the sites a bit) but for all other marketing things it is quite a good idea - just takes seconds to set up on the phone as you give them your details, or of course alternatilvely you can do it online.
