Alcohol in petrol stations?
#1
So when did that rule change then? Just a month or three back the Esso/Tesco metro station near me has started selling booze. Not bad if I need a couple of 4-packs on the way home. Now I've noticed that the local Texaco has a banner outside saying it's now an off-licence!
I thought that there were rules in place that meant booze could not be sold with petrol? I remember an independent petrol station getting closed down way back in my student days at Oxford, and everyone thought that was because they sold beer when they shouldn't have done.
Anyone with any insight into this?
Cheers

PS. I'll have a tankful of Stella please

I seem to remember seeing something in the news about a month ago that some motorway service station had gone to the European court with a fair trade case - saying it was unfiar competition that they could not sell booze - they won the case and now service stations across the UK can sell booze subject to off-licence regulations!
Although as Wurzel says, booze 24/7 here in Germany - I'll be stopping off for a 6-pack on the way to a party tonight
