Mick Mars and CC DeVille, jeeze they were one of the reasons that I took up the guitar. Rock, women, rebellion and chaos. Squealing guitars, throwing the thing round ya neck, appregios, hammer ons and pull offs to die for

GM,

I was in a band for 6 years doing the local scene and such.

Sold my amps but kept my guitars.

Back in the same band 7 years later.........

So, I have just gone out bought myself a 100 watt head, 4 x 12 cab, wah pedal, effects processor.

We are doing covers now instead of writing.

So far we have got :

Alice in Chains, The Cult, Cream, Nickelback, ACDC and Sabbath.

Blackmore was cool, Malmsteen cited him as being a major influence on his playing. I believe RB has always been very underated.

I think that's one of the pitfalls of playing in a highly commercial rock band.

Fast Eddie Clarke from the 'classic' Motorhead lineup got me interested. Others that have inspired me (to my current level of mediocrity on the axe) include:- Blackmore, Gilmour, Angus Young, 3-chord Quo, EVH, Mike Oldfield, John Williams, Mason WIlliams (I STILL can't play Classical Gas all the way through), Brian May, Howard Leese, Gordon Giltrap, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Schenker, Gary Moore, James Young and Tommy Shaw...

The tone on the whole album is unreal.

Jason Becker is good. He played with Poison for a while.

I think he became quite ill or something.

What I can't believe is the amount of Rockers from the 80's and 90's that have died from Aids !

Done 'em all (Guitars that is ) Started on a strat copy Epiphone i think it was, realised that you can't rock proper with that sort of guitar, became a washburn fan after trying to get artificial harmonics out of a gibson (Not the guitars fault, i was still crap ) Did my Mick Mars, CC DeVille years then just had to sound like Randy Rhodes on the tribute album. Off went the Washburn out came the Gibson Flying V Still didn't quite work for me (Still crap ) so moved to the Gibson Explorer. That really effin Rocked
Changed direction slightly ended up with an Ibanez Very bright flourescent yellow and Black cool and a right old bird magnet
Then went all mellow again decided to calm down a tad and bought a Gibson copy. Don't know why i did it, spur of the moment but worst guitar i've ever had the mis fortune of owning
Bought A Scoob, can't afford eff all else now

Always had Marshall Amps JCM 800,900 and 2000 100w married to a 4 x 12 cab (Sometimes 2 ) with various effects pedals/boards. Ernie ball Slinky strings .011 gauge

Yes, he has ALS which has curtailed his playing completely. Shame as he is a great player - buy 'perspective' - superb!

I have a Gibson Les Paul 2002
5 ESP guitars (Similar to Jackon / Ibanez's).
Aria Semi-acoustic
Engle 100 watt valve head. Engle 4 x 12 cab.
Budah Wah pedal
Boss GX 700 rack effects
I use .009 gauge on the ESP's and .010's on the Les Paul.
In the past I have owned various strats and various other ESP's.
I'm having an ESP custom made for me in the USA which I have got to wait 3 months for.

No probs mate. Jason has Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) - or Lou Gehrig's disease.

He has a website which is run by his sister Amy. I regularly send him mail to let him know he isnt forgotten - with all the rock fraternity behind him, he never will anyway.

Also I remember Adrian Vandenburg getting RSI for using one of those 'Grip Master' things. He couldn't play for sometime.

The absolute daddy is Jimi Hendrix leaving Steve Vai Joe Satriani
Tom Morello and Zappa to battle it out for the rest which does not really matter to me since they are all a class below Hendrix.

The thing is do you rate the players on sheer technical skill, their ability to make a guitar do things you diddn't think it could do or just the ability to make it feel like the guitarist is playing your heart strings.
Tom Morello (from rage against the machine) Has one of the most original and distictive styles of the last ten years and he created sounds and styles that I had never seen befor he came along.

BB King was no technical master but he played notes you could feel as much as you could hear them and Rory Gallager has a similar effect but he just plays with a little more skill and speed.

Jimi did all the above and more.

To repeat what I said on the other thread, I would have to say Alex Lifeson if you combine technique, soul, songwriting and solos. A lot of these other guys like Malmsteen and Vai may be able to play 8 million notes a second but they don't do it for me. But I am not a true muso. I can barely play, but I don't have a bad collection:

I am a guitar tart and they look fantasic on the wall of my study. The best tone award goes to the Les Pauls, no question. The one I play the most - Ibanez Custom.

I think all the guitar players are a little in awe of that collection.
I used to play a Gibson Les Paul standard now it mostly just gets dusty because I realized that I wasn't going to be the next Jimi Hendrix and never recoverd from the shock

Best for me is Hendrix. I don't particularly like his music but as anyone who can or has attempted to try and play the guitar will apreciate, he is a total natural. Musical ability to me is not how fast or how technical but how natural and fluid. NO-one gets close.

Claptons playing in cream era (and bluesbreakers) is very good. I also appreciate Pete Townsend, not perhaps for his ability but for his subtle rythm work.

I've played since I was 14 and still use marshalls and good old gibsons. Also got a mesa-boogie blue angel for blues.

Thanks tommy. It's taken a few years of searching and a bit of hard work to be able to afford them, but they are cool. I just wish my playing could live up to it. But I was always a singer anyway, less work required.
