OK, playing Rogue Spear at the moment and love it!!!

I guess CS is similar, and I have a flatrate connection through AOL usually at 115kbps which should be quick enough, so what do I need to do to start playing?

Is there anywhere to "download" CS, or do I have to buy it?

Aaahaa - Prepare to be assimilated

C/S Itself is a "Mod" for Half-life. It has subsequently been released as a stand-alone version aswell, however for a variety of reasons I would recommend the Mod version (Various bits have to be changed so that they can sell it Standalone without paying royalties to amp desingers etc...)

SO you need a retail copy of Half-Life. should be no more than a few quid from PC world/. They do a bundle with Half-Life, C/S Retail, and opposing force. (Best to Mod the Half-life rather than install the retail version IMHO)

Then get downloading. Current release is 1.3.

For the Mod version you have to update Half-life and then get the full C/S mod to go on top. (about 180Mb :eek

If you have the the retial version the patch is about 70MB

Dear Mr Weaver,

Get out there and buy HalF Life Generations, electronics Boutique have it. You get HL, CS and Team Fortress, ie 3 CDs in one box.

It's about twenty quid.

Then go to the sites Steve quoted and do as instructed for the RETAIL version of HL and CS.

Shoot you (or stand in aqueue with you) soon.

I know how addictive these games are so will wait until I have more time on my hands.

Hi,

I've played Halflife online for a year or two so not too much of a FPS newbie. After reading this post I downloaded the CS mod and Gamespy and finally managed to get connected to a UK2net server.

To save me some time, can someone advise me how the hell I can identify someone as being on the other team, especially when they're a long way away? Does that little radar thingy have some use in this respect? Also, why do other players seem to start games with decent weapons, whereas I always get the handgun?

Sorry for the sad newbie questions.

By the way, while Gamespy is running I get blatted with backdoor trojan attempts like never before...

Be warned though, don't take their advice on shooting as none of them could shoot a turkey at point blank range....they always come up with an excuse that their gun is load with plastic bullets

Erm, bob weapons. That means you got killed and they didn't. Buy a better gun using the "b" key and use the menus for now.

Yep, the radar shows your team. It takes some getting used to but the Ts usually wear darker clothing and tend to hunch a bit more sinister.

So long as FF (friendly fire) is off (which it generally is) shoot first and worry about it later.

yep radar shows your where your own team are so if no one in front / near u its an enemy so shoot !!

will take time to learn the looks of the various skins and general character shapes. CT's tend to have all in one colour battledress where as T's have differing colours.

as bazza says just worry if FF is on or not - although if u play with us and its switched on dont be on his side - cos he dont take much notice of Friend or Foe
